Youth respond to the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Communication Day
This is a key activity in phase 2 of the Youth Health Programme (YHP), part of the company’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness among Vietnamese youth about non-communicable disease prevention and promote healthy behaviours in schools and communities.
The event was organized by AstraZeneca Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and Plan International Vietnam.
Students have participated in many activities.
At the event, students participated in a variety of interactive activities to educate them on the importance of preventive measures, including physical activity and a balanced diet. Also within the framework of this initiative, through Plan International Vietnam, AstraZeneca sponsored the construction of a basketball court to encourage students to practice sports, which is an important factor in preventing non-communicable diseases .
Previously, the first phase of the Youth Health Programme, which was implemented from January 2019 to June 2022 in Hanoi, aimed to improve the physical and mental health of adolescents by raising awareness of behaviours that can lead to non-communicable diseases .
The program focuses on disadvantaged areas, aiming to empower young people to make healthy decisions about their health.
The results of the first phase include:
• Direct communication about non-communicable diseases to 49,365 adolescents in high schools, universities and industrial zones
• Help more than 3 million people indirectly access knowledge about non-communicable disease prevention.
• Trained over 538 advocates to lead health advocacy efforts in the community.
• Organize many training courses for communicators, teachers and health workers to improve their ability to respond to risks from non-communicable diseases .
Phase 2 of the Adolescent Health Programme (2023-2025) aims to build on the successes of the first phase by expanding the reach and enhancing the positive impacts of the programme. The objectives include:
• Reach more adolescents, especially in disadvantaged areas, to provide knowledge on non-communicable disease prevention and empower them to make informed healthy decisions.
• Work with the Ministry of Education and Training to advocate for changes in health policy to integrate adolescent health education into the curriculum.
• Strengthen youth-led communication on non-communicable disease prevention, including contributing to Vietnam's National Strategy for Non-communicable Disease Prevention and Control (2025-2035).
