Thanh Chuong is one of the localities heavily affected by floods during the annual rainy season. Low-lying communes such as Thanh Tung, Thanh Ha, Thanh Xuan, Thanh Lien, etc. are flooded almost every year. During this year’s rainy season, many weak and damaged civil works in the district still cause concern to the people.
For example, at Bau Va spillway in Thanh Nho commune, it was built a long time ago. The dam has two main functions: storing water for crops in the area and releasing floodwaters and draining water during the rainy and stormy season. However, the dam is now degraded, the dam body is peeling and eroding, and its water regulation function is ineffective.
Mr. Tran Dinh Truyen - Chairman of Thanh Nho Commune People's Committee said: Bau Va Dam is one of the most important irrigation works in the commune, directly affecting the work of natural disaster prevention and control and the lives of people in Nho Tan and Nho Xuan hamlets... Due to the dam's degradation and damage, during the rainy and stormy season, the locality must assign people to be on duty and limit the number of vehicles passing through because landslides and accidents can happen at any time. Currently, the district has a policy to upgrade the dam, so the locality is speeding up the progress to complete the construction before the rainy and stormy season.
The Ruong Rao pumping station in Thanh Tung commune is in a similar situation. This pumping station was built in 1996. After nearly 30 years of operation, the station has deteriorated, the pump is damaged, unable to pump water, affecting agricultural production as well as drainage during the rainy season. It is known that Thanh Chuong district has also had a policy to upgrade and replace the pump at this pumping station with a budget of 200 million VND.
The drainage ditch in My Son hamlet, Thanh Yen commune is also on the list of key projects that need to be invested in and built to ensure safety for people during the rainy and stormy season. After Nghe An Newspaper reported on the environmental pollution and the risk of flooding, Thanh Chuong district directed Thanh Yen commune to speed up the construction of this ditch to complete it before the rainy and stormy season...
According to Decision No. 1445/2023 of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee, the district will allocate 5.3 billion VND from the 2023 reserve budget to build and repair 29 weak projects in the communes. Each project has a total investment of 150 - 300 million VND.
