Initially, Thang Binh was a locality with a large area, large population, and a large number of meritorious people... while economic development conditions were not favorable, local revenue was low and had to rely on subsidies from the higher-level budget.

The Party Committee, government and people of Thang Binh district have united, overcome many difficulties and challenges, taken advantage of favorable opportunities, support from the province and the consensus of businesses, so after 50 years of liberation, the district has achieved important achievements in all fields.

From a place with a weak and lacking infrastructure, Thang Binh now has many important and vital traffic routes invested by the Central and the province such as Vo Chi Cong Avenue, National Highway 1, National Highway 14E (new), bridges across Truong Giang River, DT12 and DT613 routes, university routes, and rural traffic basically meeting the needs of travel, trade, and regional connectivity in the area.

The Phuoc Ha, Cao Ngan, Dong Tien, Ho Do reservoirs, Binh Dao saltwater prevention dyke, and intra-field irrigation invested by the district have irrigated the fields, contributing to improving agricultural productivity and output throughout the district.

It is noteworthy that when Thang Binh's economy developed stably, the growth rate of each year was higher than the previous year, the economic structure shifted towards gradually increasing the proportion of industry and services, and gradually decreasing the proportion of agriculture.

In 2024, economic development is a bright spot in the overall picture of the district with a growth rate of production value of economic sectors of 10.94% compared to 2023 (of which industry - construction increased by 11.4%, service sector increased by 14.84%, agriculture - forestry - fishery increased by 3.81%).

It is expected that in the period of 2020 - 2025, Thang Binh district will grow by an average of 9.5% per year. Budget revenue in 2024 will reach a record of 540 billion VND (131% of the plan assigned by the province and an increase of 30% compared to 2023).

Social infrastructure in Thang Binh such as schools, medical stations, village cultural houses, and martyrs' cemeteries have been invested in. Up to now, all schools under the district's management have met national standards.

Attention is paid to the work of encouraging learning and talent, and the quality of education has gradually improved. The lives of people with revolutionary contributions and families with preferential policies have gradually improved. By the end of 2024, Thang Binh district will have 1,108 poor households under social protection (accounting for 1.98%); the average income per capita will reach 55.5 million VND.

Mr. Vo Van Hung - Chairman of Thang Binh District People's Committee said that Thang Binh district has paid attention to planning work and has achieved some initial results so far. The dossier to adjust the general planning of Ha Lam town and the planning of Binh Minh new urban area has been approved by the provincial appraisal council and is being submitted for approval. Thang Binh has established and approved the planning of communes. The district has gradually invested in infrastructure for Ha Lam urban area and Binh Minh urban area according to the planning.

The national target program on new rural construction has achieved many positive results. Up to now, 20/20 communes in the district have met the new rural standards; 5 communes have met the advanced new rural standards. The material and spiritual life of rural people has been gradually improved and enhanced. Rural security has been ensured with many self-management models that have been actively responded to by the people.

Great ambition

Mr. Vo Van Hung said that in order to develop Thang Binh in the coming time, the District People's Committee has organized the planning of Thang Binh area construction, period up to 2030 and has been approved by the Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 339, dated February 7, 2024.

The construction planning of Thang Binh region, period up to 2030, is built on the basis of inheritance and development through the periods, focusing on the Resolution of the 21st District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025.

That is the will and aspiration of Thang Binh district to rise up with the goal of striving to become a driving force in the Southeast development strategy of the province. By 2030, Ha Lam urban area strives to expand its connection with Binh Minh urban area and neighboring communes.

Thang Binh expects the human development index and people's income to be high. The locality prioritizes the development of high-tech industry, new technology, and environmentally friendly technology; developing service industries, high-end resort tourism along rivers and coasts. In particular, tourism development goes hand in hand with preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, history, craft villages and protecting the ecological environment.

Developing high-tech agriculture, forest economy, hill garden economy, farm economy according to the combined agricultural and forestry economic model. Developing specialized medical services, attracting international general hospitals, specialized hospitals at regional and provincial levels, tourism combined with health care, resorts for the elderly...

Mr. Vo Van Hung said: “The locality has gradually invested in synchronous and modern socio-economic infrastructure, especially transportation, to facilitate connections in the North-South and East-West directions through the area. This is a highly ambitious development goal, requiring solidarity, unity, and the will to rise of the entire political system, the support of businesses, investors, and the consensus of the people of the entire district.”
