A judge in Georgia, a battleground state in the 2024 US presidential election, has struck down as 'unconstitutional' several rules passed by the state's election board.
CNN reported that Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas Cox said on October 16 (US time) that there were some provisions recently passed by the state's Board of Elections that were "problematic." The first provision required the number of ballots to be counted by hand after the voting process ended, while the other two provisions related to the certification of election results. "The court declares these provisions illegal, unconstitutional and void," Judge Thomas Cox said during the hearing.

According to CNN, a series of new provisions recently passed by the Georgia Board of Elections, controlled by Republicans, although not giving election officials the power to decide, include a provision that "allows them to conduct a reasonable investigation of the election results before certifying." However, this has raised concerns among Democrats that the provision will give election officials the power to delay or completely reject the certification of the results. It is known that the state of Georgia currently holds 16 electoral votes, and these votes are very important to both Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic opponent Kamala Harris. In the 2020 presidential election, former US President Donald Trump lost this state to Democratic candidate Joe Biden with 49.24% and 49.47% of the votes, equivalent to 11,770 votes, leading to many controversies surrounding the election results here.Vietnamnet.vn
