Currently, the weather is changing in a complicated manner, which can easily weaken the resistance of livestock, leading to a high risk of disease infection and spread. In this situation, households and livestock farms are proactively implementing measures to prevent and control diseases in livestock and poultry, especially avian influenza (AI).

During the recent Lunar New Year, chicken prices dropped, although more than 10,000 chickens were sold, the profits of Mr. Nguyen Van Phi's family in Dai Dinh town (Tam Dao) dropped sharply compared to last year. After Tet, instead of restocking immediately, Mr. Phi spent 2 weeks cleaning and disinfecting the farming environment.
According to Mr. Phi, in the current weather situation, the CGC epidemic has broken out again in some localities across the country, so it is impossible to massively re-herd. Therefore, as soon as the breeding chickens are imported, they need to be vaccinated with all kinds of vaccines to prevent and ensure safety throughout the raising process for the entire flock.
Vinh Phuc is a province with a developed livestock industry. In 2024, the livestock production value will increase by more than 5% and contribute greatly to the overall growth of the agricultural sector.
During the recent Lunar New Year, a large amount of GSGC was sold to meet the market's high food demand, causing the total GSGC herd to decrease sharply. Currently, many farmers have restored their herds.
However, the weather is currently changing erratically, with humidity, cold, and prolonged drizzle, reducing the resistance of livestock, creating favorable conditions for pathogens to develop and spread; the risk of diseases, especially CGC, invading, arising, and spreading is very high.
Since the beginning of 2025, there have been 6 outbreaks of A/H5N1 bird flu in the four provinces of Tuyen Quang, Nghe An, Tien Giang and Long An, with more than 17,000 poultry infected, dead and forced to be destroyed. In addition, African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease in buffalo and cattle have been breaking out in several provinces.
To proactively prevent and control diseases in the GSGC herd, especially CGC, since the end of January 2025, the Provincial People's Committee has issued Document No. 677 requesting relevant departments, branches and localities to implement solutions to prevent and control animal diseases.
Requesting the People's Committees of districts and cities to focus on directing and organizing the implementation of information and propaganda work to livestock owners and the community about the risks and harmful effects of dangerous livestock diseases such as CGC, African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease in livestock... guiding livestock farmers to increase the application of biosafety livestock farming measures, ensuring environmental hygiene and disease safety; the benefits of vaccination to prevent dangerous diseases for livestock herds, ensuring the vaccination rate reaches 80% of the total herd or more...

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to coordinate with district-level professional units and local authorities to strengthen inspection and closely monitor diseases in livestock herds, ensuring early detection, warning, and timely handling, preventing widespread disease spread.
Strictly implement quarantine of animals and animal products, slaughter control, veterinary hygiene inspection according to decentralization; promote the construction of disease-safe facilities and areas. Implement a full, timely, and accurate reporting regime of data on the online animal disease reporting system (VAHIS)...
Implementing the direction of the province, the authorities of communes, wards and towns in the province have proactively propagated, disseminated and guided livestock households to apply disease prevention and control measures for GSGC herds.
Ms. Tran Thi Duyen, an officer of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Thanh Van Commune (Tam Duong) said: "Since Tet, the weather has been unfavorable, it has been very cold, and food prices have dropped, so many poultry farming households in the commune have not wanted to restock. For households that are raising livestock, they should proactively implement solutions to protect their livestock such as covering their barns, keeping them warm, and adding vitamins, electrolytes, minerals, etc. to their daily food during the days when the temperature drops; and cleaning and disinfecting the livestock environment.
Along with the initiative of households, local authorities will continue to promote propaganda, guidance and mobilization of livestock households to fully implement vaccination for GSGC herds and disinfect the livestock environment, ensuring disease safety in livestock herds."
