In recent times, people in Dong Hy district (Thai Nguyen province) have focused on production associated with environmental protection to contribute to building green, safe and sustainable agriculture.
Tan Do Hamlet (Hoa Binh Commune, Dong Hy District, Thai Nguyen Province) currently has 123 households with nearly 100 hectares of production land. People here mainly farm and grow tea. Previously, after each time using pesticides, people often arbitrarily threw away packaging and bottles right on the banks of fields, ditches, streams...
However, from mid-2023 until now, after being selected to participate in the model "Vietnamese farmers participate in collecting pesticide packaging associated with environmental protection", people in Tan Do hamlet have been propagandized and supported to build tanks and bins for plastic waste from the alleys to the fields.

"Currently, the awareness of local people has been greatly improved. People have seen the necessity, meaning and importance of maintaining environmental hygiene and safety in production, especially in the context of Tan Do hamlet moving towards developing community tourism," said Mr. Chu Van Huong, a resident of Tan Do hamlet.
Participating in the model "Vietnamese farmers participate in collecting pesticide packaging associated with environmental protection", people were supported with 28 240-liter plastic trash bins with concrete pillars and placed in the fields, an area convenient for everyone to travel.
Along with that, people have been trained and instructed on how to use, classify and treat waste, especially hazardous waste such as pesticide packaging. At the same time, people also signed a commitment to produce and trade in association with environmental protection. After 6 months, this amount of waste will be collected by members and brought to the waste treatment area according to regulations.
Currently, the total annual crop area of Dong Hy district is nearly 10,000 hectares, of which the rice cultivation area is about 2,300 hectares. In reality, the situation of spraying and dumping pesticide containers in violation of regulations and burning straw after harvest, causing environmental pollution, still occurs.
Accordingly, to contribute to building green, safe and sustainable agriculture, creating the foundation and conditions for organic agricultural development, Dong Hy District Farmers' Association has actively mobilized members as well as people to carry out production and business associated with environmental protection.
According to Ms. An Thi Huong, Chairwoman of Dong Hy District Farmers' Association, every year, the unit actively coordinates with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Thai Nguyen province to organize training and distribute leaflets to propagate the Law on Environmental Protection and how to classify waste at source for members.

"Dong Hy District Farmers' Association has also proactively coordinated with relevant units to disseminate experiences and good models in production associated with environmental protection. At the same time, it has brought farmer members to visit high-tech agricultural models, ecological and organic agriculture... in other localities," informed Ms. An Thi Huong.
In addition, the Farmers' Association of Dong Hy district has also directed the Farmers' Associations of communes and towns to register specific programs in new rural construction such as: Taking charge of collecting and transporting waste to the collection point; registering self-managed routes for farmers; implementing the movement of farmers cleaning their fields; periodically organizing cadres and members to participate in sweeping and cleaning village roads, alleys, and clearing drainage systems around villages; propagating and mobilizing production and livestock establishments to build biogas tanks and gradually move them out of residential areas; supervising the environmental protection work of organizations and individuals engaged in production, business, and livestock activities to promptly detect and handle acts that cause environmental pollution.
"From 2020 to now, the District Farmers' Association has coordinated to organize 12 training courses on rural environmental protection, protection of soil and water resources, plastic waste prevention, proactive response to climate change, prevention and mitigation of natural disasters for nearly 900 officials, members and farmers. The Association has also mobilized the construction of 15 farmer models participating in rural environmental protection and climate change response in communes and towns", shared the Chairman of the Dong Hy District Farmers' Association.
Dong Hy District Farmers' Association has also organized training courses for people on livestock production techniques according to VietGAP standards, organic orientation; making the most of livestock waste and agricultural by-products to produce organic fertilizers and biological products to prevent and control pests. Thereby minimizing the impact on the environment and creating high-quality agricultural products, safe for consumers' health...
