Green growth associated with ecological industrial parks
Introducing the “green” business model to reporters, Mr. Phan Hong Diep – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shinec Joint Stock Company (An Phat Industrial Park – Hai Duong) – one of the rapidly developing industrial parks in an ecological direction, affirmed: “What we take from the land, we return to the land, not only inspiring investors in the industrial park, we also bring this model to invest in other provinces”.
Mr. Phan Hong Diep also said that currently, in the trend of sustainable development, enterprises are promoting the saving of clean water resources, building industrial value chains...
“In all industrial parks (IPs), there is domestic waste. According to regulations, there must be a unit outside the IP to take this domestic waste for treatment, but we have invested in a Japanese organic waste decomposition machine to treat it. We strive to achieve zero waste in the IP by the end of 2024, 100% of the waste will be treated,” said Mr. Diep.
According to Mr. Bruno Jaspaert - CEO of Deep C (Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park - Hai Phong), the current development principles of this enterprise are all in the direction of ensuring to attract investors who want to invest because of the ability to provide them with access to services related to ESG (environmental, social and governance criteria - PV), to carbon certificates, initiatives so that investors can report to management that their investment activities are effective, not only in terms of profit but also in implementing social responsibility.
“We have the DEEP C Care project and invite investors to participate, we manage and operate the program to ensure benefits for the community and society. These initiatives all ensure that: We develop an industrial park not because of cheap land rental prices but because we follow the greenest and most sustainable orientation” – Mr. Bruno said.
According to Ms. Vuong Thi Minh Hieu - Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Zones Management (Ministry of Planning and Investment), applying the eco-industrial park model in Vietnam is a solution towards green growth and sustainable development, with relevant agencies focusing on building policies, regulations, criteria, strengthening planning, management... for eco-industrial parks; promoting technology transfer, clean and safe production methods; at the same time, providing technical support, access to preferential finance for investment in efficient use of resources...
Removing "bottlenecks" to develop ecological industrial parks
Sharing with reporters, Mr. Bruno Jaspaert said that the biggest problem is that Vietnam is developing very quickly but the legal regulations have not kept up with that speed. Therefore, if you want to build a sustainable industrial park, it is still possible but it takes a lot of time and effort.
“I can give an example that it took us three years to get a permit to install this wind power pole because Vietnam does not have technical standards for installing wind power poles in industrial zones. In Europe, you can see wind power poles installed along highways and in industrial zones. But in Vietnam, it is not easy to do this because the legal regulations have not kept up. That is one of the reasons why it is difficult to do, another reason is that this issue is quite new in Vietnam,” said Mr. Bruno.
According to Mr. Bruno Jaspaert, although the ecological industry is forming and developing strongly in Vietnam, there are still too many new things that cannot be applied overnight.
“At this point I can say that there are no incentives for eco-industrial parks, I hope that the situation will be different in the future,” said Mr. Bruno.
Mr. Bruno Jaspaert - CEO of Deep C said: "We have a wastewater treatment plant that can treat the quality of the treated wastewater to be better than the quality of the raw water, but we still cannot return the treated wastewater to the industrial production process, although secondary investors in the industrial park are willing to reuse this treated wastewater."
