Strengths from agriculture and craft villages
For a long time, Phu Xuyen district has been known as the land of hundreds of crafts of the capital, with rich products, from leather shoes, sandals, wooden furniture to rattan, bamboo, sedge, mother-of-pearl inlay... Not only that, this place is also one of the key agricultural areas of Hanoi, with vast rice fields, a growing system of farms, gardens - ponds - barns, forming a rural space rich in potential for experiential tourism.
In fact, many craft villages, such as Chuyen My and Phu Tuc, not only preserve traditional crafts, but also boldly convert agricultural land, forming large-scale farm models with beautiful landscapes and very suitable for welcoming visitors. When the two types of tourism: Craft villages and agriculture are integrated and complement each other, Phu Xuyen will have the opportunity to enhance its image, expand the market for products and build a sustainable development model for this rural area.
Not only famous for its mother-of-pearl inlay craft, Chuyen My commune also surprises many people with its endless rice fields and green farm system that is shaping a new look for the countryside every day. With more than 500 hectares of agricultural land, of which 240 hectares have been converted into a comprehensive farm model, Chuyen My is gradually affirming a sustainable agricultural development direction, in parallel with preserving and promoting the value of the craft village.
Notably, Chuyen My has been recognized by Hanoi as a Craft Village Tourism Destination. According to Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Phu Chuyen Agricultural Cooperative, Chuyen My Commune, Vu Van Dinh, the potential of craft village space combined with ecological farms is a favorable condition for the commune to exploit and develop tourism in a systematic and professional manner. "If we can connect craft village tourism and experiential agriculture, not only will the value of local craft village products increase, but people's lives will also change in a green, clean, and sustainable direction," Mr. Vu Van Dinh shared.
Similarly, Phu Tuc commune - famous for its traditional sedge weaving craft that is over 300 years old - has also been recognized by Hanoi as a craft village tourism destination of the city. Not only preserving and developing traditional crafts, Phu Tuc also expands the scale of specialized areas, builds a system of farms, and lush, rich orchards, creating a vibrant rural picture. According to Mr. Dang Quoc Trieu, Head of Luu Xa village, Phu Tuc commune, if craft village tourism and experiential agricultural tourism are skillfully combined, this is an opportunity to open up a sustainable development direction for the people. Tourists coming to Phu Tuc to visit and experience, not only watch the hands of craftsmen making sophisticated sedge products, but can also immerse themselves in the fruit gardens and fish ponds of their homeland.
Not only Chuyen My, Phu Tuc, the communes of Phuong Duc, Van Tu, Phu Yen also have great potential for developing craft village tourism associated with agricultural production. In particular, Van Tu commune also has Cuu village, an ancient village bearing the imprint of French architecture, with rows of moss-covered villas, old village gates, full of "memories of time", located near farms, green fields, creating a highlight for the tourism picture of Phu Xuyen.
Breakthrough thanks to combining craft village tourism and agriculture
In Phu Xuyen district, there are currently 4 localities recognized by the City People's Committee as Craft Village Tourist Destinations, including: Van Tu, Chuyen My, Phu Yen and Phu Tuc. In 2025, the district strives to have at least one more recognized craft village tourist destination, contributing to expanding the experience space for tourists.
Phu Xuyen district has a clear orientation, developing tourism economy, rural agriculture associated with new rural construction. The district also actively builds tourist routes connecting unique destinations, from Rang pagoda (Quang Lang) to Gie Ha and Gie Thuong communal houses, Phu Yen leather and footwear craft village, Cuu village (Van Tu), Chuyen My mother-of-pearl inlay craft village, Tan Dan and Quang Ha wooden furniture establishments...
In particular, in the first months of 2025, Phu Xuyen continued to welcome many meaningful international exchange and cooperation activities, such as: Coordinating the production of a reality TV show with a Romanian artist group at To he Xuan La village (Phuong Duc), or organizing field tours for hundreds of students from prestigious universities in Hanoi to survey and experience the craft village space.
Chairman of Phu Xuyen District People's Committee Le Van Binh said that Phu Xuyen has dual advantages, being a land rich in tradition with many handicrafts, and possessing a large area of agricultural land and peaceful countryside space, very suitable for developing agricultural and ecological tourism combined with craft village tourism.
“In the coming time, Phu Xuyen will continue to review and complete the planning of craft village tourism spots, while supporting the construction of infrastructure, rural transportation and training of human resources to anticipate the trend of experiential tourism and green tourism,” emphasized Chairman of Phu Xuyen District People's Committee Le Van Binh.
