Developing tourism, contributing to building local image

DTO - After Conclusion No. 249 of the 11th Provincial Party Committee on continuing to promote tourism development, contributing to building the image of the province in the period of 2021 - 2025 (abbreviated as Conclusion No. 249) was issued, the Provincial People's Committee developed Plan No. 61 dated February 25, 2022 to implement Conclusion No. 249 closely following the goals, targets and contents of the Conclusion, organizing implementation with 5 targets, 5 main groups of tasks and 10 groups of key solutions suitable to the practical conditions of the unit and locality. Through the implementation and dissemination work, Party committees, authorities, and socio-political organizations have effectively implemented, promoted tourism development, and contributed to building the image of the Land of Pink Lotus.

The information and propaganda work of Conclusion No. 249 is carried out in many forms, close, easy to understand, easy to remember on the Dong Thap Electronic Information Portal, the Provincial Tourism Information Portal, and the Electronic Information Pages of all levels and sectors. Thereby, creating consensus among the people for the policies of the Party Committee and the government related to tourism development, contributing to building the image of the locality. The Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a set of criteria for assessing safety in preventing and combating Covid-19 in tourism activities in the province, and a plan to reopen tourism activities in the province under new normal conditions. At the same time, establish an interdisciplinary inspection team (health, industry and trade) to organize on-site inspections and provide guidance to tourism service businesses to comply with the set of criteria for assessing safety in preventing and combating Covid-19 in tourism activities in the area and announce on the Provincial Tourism Information Portal the units and establishments that meet the criteria of "Safe establishments", as well as provide a list of establishments that are qualified to welcome guests to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and travel businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to develop a tourism program connecting tours and routes to bring visitors to visit Dong Thap.

Tourist areas and spots in the province are constantly innovating, creating, actively renovating, investing in upgrading facilities, environmental landscapes, and amenities to serve visitors, creating new products and services associated with improving service quality, ensuring safety criteria for epidemic prevention and control, meeting the needs of entertainment, spring travel, Tet, major national holidays, cultural and tourism events of the province and localities. Community attractions have invested in upgrading facilities and amenities to serve domestic and foreign visitors. To date, the province has 12 establishments that meet the standards of local tourist attractions according to the 2017 Tourism Law; more than 100 agricultural tourism, community tourism and craft village experience spots have been established and put into operation in districts and cities with 57 spots recognized as meeting standards to serve tourists.

In particular, tourism models combined with agriculture have been quite effective, helping to extend the value chain, increase the value of agricultural products, create more jobs in rural areas, and bring stable income to farmers. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has supported localities in building and linking tours: Cao Lanh district has built tours linking tourist destinations in the district such as Binh Thanh floating village - Thien Phu tourist site - To pagoda - My Xuong tourist village; Lai Vung district has opened a river tour connecting coconut gardens with two newly recognized craft villages (nem making and boat building), promoting the district's traditional sport, the traditional boat racing, into a service product for tourists.

In 2024 alone, the whole province welcomed 4,490,000 tourists, reaching 106.9% of the plan (an increase of 11.28% over the same period in 2023), achieving the target set out in Conclusion No. 249. Total tourism revenue reached VND 2,170 billion, reaching 108.5% (an increase of 12.71% over the same period in 2023). In total, the total number of tourists in the period of 2021 - 2024 reached nearly 18.6 million people and the total revenue was nearly VND 9,000 billion.

The province continues to pay attention to tourism development in the coming time and gradually turn tourism into an important economic sector; improve the scale and quality of products and services, contributing to building the local image - Dong Thap is one of the attractive destinations of the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, strengthen the effective implementation of tasks and solutions of Conclusion No. 249; Resolution No. 01/2022/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council on Regulations on policies to support investment in tourism development in Dong Thap province in the period of 2022 - 2026 and the Tourism Development Project to contribute to building the image of Dong Thap province in the period of 2022 - 2025 and orientation to 2030. Promote support for localities and tourism models that have enjoyed investment policies for tourism development under Resolution No. 210/2018/NQ-HDND to continue maintaining the quality of products and services...
