Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for May 2025 delivery rose 34 yuan to 3,517 yuan/t.

Iron ore futures rebounded as Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election raised hopes that top consumer China will announce more stimulus measures this week to offset any negative impact of a potentially wider trade war.

The most-traded January iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) DCIOcv1 was up 1.15% at 792 yuan ($110.42) a tonne.

The benchmark December iron ore contract SZZFZ4 on the Singapore Exchange rose 0.44% to $104.4 a tonne.

"If a strong fiscal stimulus policy is implemented, along with the realization of infrastructure and additional funding before the end of the year, the short-term stimulus policy and slightly improved fundamentals are expected to resonate, supporting prices," analysts at Jinrui Futures said in a note.

China’s iron ore imports rose 4.48% in October, official data showed, as steelmakers’ profit margins improved, as Beijing’s massive economic stimulus package spurred more buying.

Other steelmaking components on the DCE fell, with coking coal DJMcv1 and coke DCJcv1 down 0.3% and 0.48%, respectively.

Most steel benchmarks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange edged higher. Rebar SRBcv1 rose 0.15%, hot-rolled coil SHHCcv1 rose 0.2%, wire rod SWRcv1 edged up 0.11%, while stainless steel SHHScv1 fell 0.41%.
