Ensuring raw material areas to develop 4-star OCOP products

 

OCOP 3-star and 4-star rice products from cooperatives and businesses in the province are sold to consumers in many stores.

 

Recognition for some products achieving 4-star OCOP recognized by the Department of Agriculture and Environment in February 2025, such as: Que Toi rice (Thuan Thien Private Enterprise, Tra Cu District); headless, peeled, deveined, tailless whiteleg shrimp boiled frozen with sauce (Cuu Long Seafood Joint Stock Company); Hoa Hong coconut oil (Phuong Huynh clean coconut oil production facility, Tra Vinh City); Mekong pure cocoa powder (Mekong Cocoa Company Limited, Chau Thanh District) these are products with raw material areas attached to localities in the province; the subjects are linked with farmers to produce and purchase raw materials grown and raised in a safe, organic direction...

For 4-star OCOP products, not only do they meet quality standards but they are also associated with building sustainable raw material areas. For example, Sokfarm coconut nectar products (Tra Vinh) are produced from a large coconut raw material area in Tra Vinh, the coconut exploitation process is completely natural, without chemicals; pure coconut oil products, developed from concentrated coconut growing areas, apply the cold pressing method to preserve nutrients. My Homeland Organic Rice, produced in an organic direction, does not use chemicals, ensuring clean and safe standards in the rice growing areas of Ngoc Bien, Long Hiep and Tan Hiep (Tra Cu district), Don Xuan (Duyen Hai district) ...

In recent years, cocoa trees have not been developed by farmers due to lack of output, cocoa purchasing and processing is mainly from enterprises in Ben Tre. Since the Mekong Cacao powder product of Mekong Cacao Company Limited (Song Loc commune, Chau Thanh district) has been trusted by the market and the product has been exported to many countries, the source of cocoa fruit is attractive, the price is stable.

Ms. Huynh Thi Thanh Tuyen, Head of Marketing Department of Cacao Mekong Company Limited shared: the company's Mekong cocoa product has just achieved 4-star OCOP certification, this is an honor for the enterprise; at the same time, it sets out for the enterprise the direction of developing raw material areas; in order to contribute to stabilizing raw material areas, creating safe products.

With the characteristic of being a product produced from cocoa beans grown in a sustainable coconut intercropping model, without chemicals in Cau Ke, Tieu Can, Cang Long districts and Mekong Cacao Company Limited in association with farmers in product consumption. Mekong cocoa powder products retain 100% pure cocoa flavor, without mixing additives or preservatives; highly appreciated for its nutritional content, rich in flavonoids and antioxidants.

In 2022, My Homeland rice product of Thuan Thien Private Enterprise (Ngoc Bien commune, Tra Cu district) was recognized as achieving 3-star OCOP and by 2024, Thuan Thien Private Enterprise will continue to invest, improve product quality and aim to produce according to a safe, closed process and fully implement business activities in product output and input... ensuring full certification processes for My Homeland rice products to achieve 4 stars.

In the winter-spring rice crop of 2024 - 2025, the enterprise has cooperated with farmers to build a raw material area of ​​about 300 hectares to produce Que Toi rice, with the ST25 rice variety. The guaranteed purchase price linked to rice growers is always 1,500 - 2,000 VND/kg higher than the outside price. By linking with farmers in the raw rice growing area, the enterprise ensures quality and stable supply. Each OCOP product has a traceability system, helping consumers trust in the quality and origin.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dieu, Director of Thuan Thien Tra Vinh Private Enterprise, said: The product “My Hometown Rice” is recognized as achieving 4 stars and is currently highly trusted by the domestic and foreign markets. When the product is certified as OCOP, the added value of the product will be higher than that of conventional products. The raw material (ST25 rice variety) is produced from clean rice areas in Tra Vinh, where there are suitable soil conditions and water sources. The enterprise cooperates with farmers, instructing on organic farming techniques to ensure quality, along with a system of processing and packaging factories... that are invested in a systematic manner and supported by the state, helping the product to be better preserved, keeping its freshness.
