Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army, led a delegation on an official visit to Vietnam from March 4 to 7 at the invitation of General Nguyen Tan Cuong.
Speaking at the talks, Senior General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized that over the past time, defense cooperation in general and cooperation between the General Staffs of the two armies of Vietnam and Laos in particular have achieved substantial results, continuing to affirm themselves as one of the important pillars in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
Accordingly, the two sides have closely coordinated in effectively advising the Party and State leaders on strategic military and defense issues of each country; military and service cooperation has been implemented practically and effectively; border military regions and Border Guards of both sides have coordinated well in ensuring security, order and social safety in the border areas of the two countries.
Cooperation in human resource training continues to receive special attention from both sides in terms of both quantity and quality; cooperation in logistics and defense industry is promoted...
The two sides agreed that in the coming time, based on the documents signed between the leaders of the two Ministries of Defense, they should focus on promoting cooperation in a number of key areas such as effectively coordinating the implementation of cooperation contents according to the common perception of the high-ranking leaders of the two countries, especially the Vietnam - Laos high-level agreement in 2024, the meeting between the leaders of the three parties of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia (February 22).
Strengthening the sharing of strategic issues through high-level meetings and the Defense Policy Dialogue mechanism at the Deputy Minister of National Defense level;
Strengthen cooperation between the armies, military branches and border protection forces of the two countries; attach importance to cooperation in human resource training; promote cooperation in logistics, information technology, and defense industry; continue to support each other in multilateral forums.

Speaking at the talks, Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith emphasized that the meeting between the two Chiefs of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and the Lao People's Army this time is of great significance, affirming that Vietnam-Laos defense cooperation has become increasingly in-depth and practical in recent times.
In 2024, cooperation between the two armies will be comprehensively developed in the fields of delegation exchanges, training, and military-to-military exchanges. The two sides will actively support each other in international forums.
Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith agreed that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to promote the cooperative relationship on the basis of signed documents, contributing to further strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries and the two armies of Vietnam and Laos, forever green and forever sustainable.

The Vietnamese Minister of National Defense suggested that in the coming time, the two sides continue to closely coordinate and effectively implement the orientation of bilateral cooperation, focusing on making breakthroughs in the quality of cooperation in training and human resource development;
Cooperation in border management and protection; consulting with senior leaders on military and defense affairs; supporting Laos in building a United Nations peacekeeping force; coordinating the organization of the annual meeting of the three defense ministers in 2025.
