Witness the magnificent highway project running through Ha Tinh

The North-South Eastern Expressway Project, phase 2021 - 2025, through Ha Tinh has a total length of more than 100 km with 3 component projects, including: Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang and Vung Ang - Bung; passing through the districts: Duc Tho, Can Loc, Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh, Ha Tinh city and Ky Anh town. The project started construction in January 2023.

The design scale of the expressway through Ha Tinh in the investment phase is 4 lanes, 17m road surface; the completed phase is 6 lanes, 32.25m roadbed. In the picture is the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi component project, more than 35km long with a total investment of more than 7,600 billion VND. This expressway has the starting point at the intersection of National Highway 8, Thanh Binh Thinh Commune, Duc Tho District, connecting with the Dien Chau - Bai Vot section and the end point in Thach Xuan Commune, Thach Ha District, connecting with the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway component project.

From low-lying areas through fields, rivers, and streams, replaced by high roads, the project implementation unit is paving the remaining asphalt concrete layers before the handover date and putting them into use.

According to a representative of Joint Stock Company 319 (Ministry of National Defense), "The section of the road that the unit is implementing has achieved a production capacity of more than 96%. "Workers and machines are mobilized to the maximum, working day and night to lay the remaining asphalt layers and items, in time for handover and traffic opening on April 30."

Along with that, the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway component project, over 54 km long with a total investment of over VND9,700 billion, passing through Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen and Ky Anh districts, is also gradually reaching the finish line according to the set schedule.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Trung - Director of the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang Project Management Board, under the Thang Long Project Management Board - said that contractors are speeding up the completion of remaining items such as expansion joints, residential roads, signs, and railings to hand over the project and put it into operation according to the Government's requirements. In the picture is the highway crossing the green rice fields in Cam Lac commune (Cam Xuyen district), creating a peaceful and majestic scene.

The system of sewers, underpasses, drainage ditches, and irrigation ditches is also arranged quite reasonably, ensuring the travel, living, and production needs of people living along the highway.

“The main route of the project has almost completed all the work. Along with focusing on speeding up the progress of C16 asphalt paving at the remaining locations, the unit continues to complete guardrails, protective fences, road markings...", said engineer Dang Dinh Duyen - the unit implementing package 11,12XL, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang section.

To ensure the handover progress this April, each unit implementing the bidding packages is speeding up and preparing enough human resources and machinery for the project construction process.

At the intersection of Km555+509 of the North-South Expressway in Ky Trung commune, through the DH.91 district road (Tho - Trung road) 8.1km long, the expressway will be connected to National Highway 1 and the center of Ky Anh district, which has been gradually completed.

The project implementation unit is paving the final asphalt layers at the entrance to the intersection.

The highway crosses hills, rivers, rice fields, and tea hills becoming majestic.

The system of signs, anti-glare panels, railings, and road markings on the route is being actively completed.

Residential roads and highway underpasses are fully arranged and completed to serve the needs of local people.

The highway through Ha Tinh passes through hills 40-60m high, requiring contractors to implement many construction solutions in accordance with technical design, safety and quality requirements.

The hills at Km550 (in Ky Phong commune) and the hills at Km560 (in Ky Van commune) are higher than 50m and are also the critical paths of the project.

At this time, the contractor has completed the roadbed and is reinforcing the slope to prevent rockfall by using anchors combined with high-strength steel mesh. According to the contractors, due to the geology of the hills with large amounts of rock, combined with the construction using stepped steps, pumping concrete mortar, and creating drainage ditches, there is no need to worry about landslides when the rainy season comes.

Vung Ang - Bung is the third component project of the North - South Eastern Expressway in the 2021 - 2025 period through Ha Tinh. Vung Ang - Bung Expressway started construction in January 2023, with a total investment of more than 12,500 billion VND, invested by Project Management Board 6 (Ministry of Transport). After more than 2 years of construction, the road sections on the route have been basically completed. In the picture is the Kim Son Lake road and overpass project (Ky Hoa commune, Ky Anh district).

There are 33 bridges along the route, including 28 on the highway and 5 on the highway. Bridges No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are critical projects in the section through Ha Tinh. Currently, this section also has Bridge No. 1, 942m long, passing through Ky Hoa commune (Ky Anh district), which is one of the projects being constructed on difficult terrain, with bridge piers up to 50m high, and the girder supports of the spans are being urgently completed. According to the project implementation unit, it is expected that the main structure of the bridge deck will be completed by April 30 and the project will be open to traffic by June 30.

On the Vung Ang - Bung expressway, there is the Deo But road tunnel with a total investment of 1,000 billion VND. This is the only road tunnel on the North - South expressway through Ha Tinh. The tunnel is designed with 2 tubes with lengths of 716m and 840m respectively, each tunnel is 15m wide and 8m high.

Construction began in July 2023 and the tunnel is now basically complete. The contractor is focusing on installing lighting systems, pouring concrete for emergency lanes, installing railing systems and other accessories.

According to the initial plan of the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction), the expressway project through Ha Tinh will be basically completed in 2025 and put into operation from 2026. However, given the achieved volume, the Government and ministries have requested investors and contractors to speed up construction progress, putting the project into operation on April 30, 2025 at the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi and Ham Nghi - Vung Ang component projects. The Vung Ang - Bung project alone will be completed and put into operation in June this year along with other projects in Quang Binh and Quang Tri.
