Vietnam to soon have steel rails for high-speed railways and defense industry

Hoa Phat Group has joined hands with partners to fulfill its commitment to the Prime Minister on the production of high-speed railway steel rails.

Two months after the Prime Minister's visit to the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex, Hoa Phat Group joined hands with its partners to fulfill its commitment to the Prime Minister on the production of high-speed railway steel rails.

On April 10, 2025, Hoa Phat and Primetals Group signed a contract to supply a high-quality steel casting and rolling line with a capacity of 500,000 tons/year. With this line, Hoa Phat Group will boost the production of high-quality steel lines. According to the plan, the rolling line is expected to provide the first products in the third quarter of 2026 and the casting line will be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Hoa Phat and Primetals sign contract for high quality steel casting and rolling line

According to the agreement, Primetals will design, supply and install billet casting machines to allow Hoa Phat to produce steel products for automobile tire beading (tire cord, bead wire), fabricated steel, bearing steel, prestressed steel... and many other high-quality products. In particular, the production line also integrates a standby for large-size billet casting modules to produce rail steel (bloom), and beam blanks to produce steel profiles up to 800mm for the steel structure industry.

At the same time, Primetals provides Hoa Phat with high-quality wire rod rolling line equipment. The products of the line are tire belt steel, automobile tire bead steel, cold-formed steel, prestressed steel, non-alloy spring steel, steel for crane cables, steel for precision screws, etc. The line is also integrated with the production of smooth round bars and rolled steel bars for processing and manufacturing industries, for the defense industry. These are the most modern equipment lines of Primetals - a corporation owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries headquartered in London, UK. According to the schedule, it is expected that in the third quarter of 2026, the rolling line can provide the first products and in the fourth quarter of 2026, the casting line will be put into operation.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hoa Phat Group Tran Dinh Long affirmed that the Group focuses on promoting the production of high-quality steel and manufactured steel to help replace high-grade steel products that are currently being imported. Hoa Phat is confident in producing steel for the railway industry, train axles, and high-speed trains as ordered by the Government as well as high-quality steel for key national projects and for export to the world market.

Primetals Group General Director, Mr. Satoru Iijima said that Primetals is committed to providing the best quality equipment and ensuring the progress as set. When this new line is put into operation, Hoa Phat Group will own a range of high-quality products in the region, meeting the most stringent standards in the world.

It is known that Primetals Group is one of the world's leading units in metallurgical technology, providing key equipment for the project imported from G7 countries, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance. This is also a long-term partner of Hoa Phat. Previously, the hot rolled coil steel production line at the HRC2 Factory, Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Project was also designed and supplied by this group.
