On the evening of March 21, rapper Phao released the diss rap Su Nghiep Chuong. Less than a day later, the product received more than 3 million views, ranking 2nd in the trending music chart of YouTube Vietnam. Not to mention other platforms. This is a quite remarkable achievement in the current context of Vietnamese rap.

Diss or dizz is a slang, shortened from "disrespect", meaning lack of respect.

Rappers use diss to criticize, ridicule, or mock another person. It is considered a part of hip-hop culture.

Previously in the Vietnamese rap scene, there were many male rappers who released extremely aggressive diss tracks but were criticized, but "Ngư nghiệp Trừng " was well received. Even those who don't "inhale" drama had to give praise.

Phao's 'Career' has sharp lyrics, catchy melodies and a love drama setting that makes the public curious. It's not hard to understand why it was so well received.

Cannon uses drama extremely sharp

Fireworks explode amid the hot love affair between streamer ViruSs and TikToker Ngoc Kem.

Although Phao's company previously denied the rapper's involvement, the previous implication, plus Ngoc Kem posting a rap and tagging Phao right when ViruSs was livestreaming, made the story even hotter.

The story of a girl who falls in love with a bad guy and is "cuckolded" by him, so she tries to respond bluntly and without mercy.

The rapper continuously uses sharp, sarcastic words to describe the face of the person being dissed.

For example: "Which girl is an employee, which girl is a partner / This pig denies evil, they don't know who she is / She knows who she is / Only I don't know who she is".

Although netizens "scrutinized" and deduced a series of traces related to the story of ViruSs and Ngoc Kem, the rapper still maintained a rather ambiguous attitude, not naming anyone, further increasing curiosity and discussion about the product. This was clearly a smart move by Phao.

Rap diss The bad career

Rap diss but well received

Rappers use diss to prove their language skills, flow... A good diss not only "knocks out" their opponents but also attracts the audience. With Unjust Career , Phao has it all.

While many diss songs by Vietnamese male rappers often revolve around excessively attacking their opponents, using vulgar and offensive language to assert their ego, with the goal of "taking them down" instead of telling stories, Phao is quite gentle but the more you listen, the more profound it becomes.

Phao attracted attention when participating in the TV show King of Rap in 2020. But the big turning point came from 2 minutes of collaboration with producer Masew, becoming a viral phenomenon, reaching more than 300 million views on YouTube and topping the global Shazam music chart - Photo: FBNV

She uses a series of metaphorical, creative but very straightforward lyrics and images, stating the essence of things but with its subtlety.

For example "Peter Pan" (referring to adults who do not want to take responsibility).

The rap has a typical punchline of battle rap, which is extremely responsive but no less attractive, quite humorous and entertaining like "Making diss music like this is too nice" or "If you love like that, one day I'll slap you and send you to the dental hospital".

The flow of this song is quite smooth. I have to give credit to producer Kerem Kocak, because in a rather rushed time, he created a catchy beat, mixing modern urban style with trap, funk, dark pop genres... making "Ngư Nghiệp Trừng" go beyond the scope of a "quick" diss track following the drama.

The rap sends a message about women's self-esteem and bravery: loving with all your heart but also being ready to let go when betrayed. The message about feminism is easy to sympathize with, especially with female audiences.

And in the context of rap diss often being associated with a masculine, somewhat aggressive image, the appearance of a rapper like Phao with a strong, individual yet still feminine diss has brought a new, surprising, and unique dish.

Phao's entry into the diss scene has broken gender stereotypes, creating a sense of an attractive feminist role model. Meanwhile, male rappers who diss each other are sometimes considered "petty men", especially if the content is not convincing enough. In this respect, Phao is clearly favored.
