Identifying the agricultural extension system as indispensable for economic development, when agriculture is still the economic support and pillar. Therefore, the agricultural extension system cannot be eliminated but on the contrary, it needs to be strengthened and strongly innovated to reach the development level. With Binh Thuan Agricultural Extension Center, the goal is to connect product value chains, connect outputs, promote technology application, digital transformation application, build product brands and multi-channel sales for people.
Building community agricultural extension as a "long arm" at the grassroots level
Determining the functions, tasks, roles and positions of agricultural extension work, since the beginning of 2024, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has focused on agricultural extension work closely following the grassroots, changing from a support mindset to a connection mindset. Standing out in the field of cultivation, for the first time, the App "Binh Thuan Digital Agriculture" is expected to promote and change people's production mindset.
That is through electronic diary recording to make production transparent, to trace the origin of products. At the same time, it has been applied by the Center in all models. In particular, the program of producing dragon fruit according to VietGAP standards has been strongly implemented. In particular, electronic diary recording is applied, achieving the goal of digitizing 30% of VietGAP certification records in 2024.
According to Mr. Ngo Thai Son - Deputy Director in charge of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center: "Since the beginning of the year, the Center has synchronously deployed programs and models under the agricultural extension task in 2024. Including cultivation, livestock, aquaculture, VietGAP dragon fruit certification, especially promoting digital transformation, traceability of agricultural products. In addition, with the determination to build effective community agricultural extension teams associated with promoting digital training, electronic diary recording in the production of VietGAP dragon fruit, high-quality rice...".
Notably, one of the new ways of "connecting" is to take advantage of support from resources, a number of program and project activities have been coordinated by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center with the Central, institutes, schools, and enterprises and have been effectively implemented synchronously. In which, the criteria of science and technology to innovate the growth model and integrate multi-values is a guiding principle throughout. Typically, the work of handing over grass-fed pig breeds with selected genetic resources, with a scale of 44 pigs in 2 ethnic communes of Ham Thuan Bac and Bac Binh districts has just been deployed. As a result, according to Mr. K' Van Tinh, one of the households supported to implement the model, said: "My family has raised pigs for 5 years. Up to now, thanks to the attention of relevant agencies and units, I have been supported with 11 pigs (10 female pigs and 1 male pig) and will try to expand so that people in the commune have pigs to restore their herds. During the process of raising and developing the herd, we hope to have an output market so that people can stabilize and develop their long-term livelihoods.
Digital transformation of agriculture
According to the Agricultural Extension Center, agricultural extension work in the new situation does not only implement models in a fragmented and individual manner, but must be systematic and large-scale to meet key development projects and strategies. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, the unit has organized and signed agreements and worked with more than 15 units, institutes, schools, enterprises and cooperatives. Thereby, in order to improve the effectiveness of socializing agricultural extension work, taking advantage of resources for operation. With the goal of connecting product value chains, connecting outputs, promoting technology application, digital transformation application, building product brands and multi-channel sales for people.
Notably, in 2024, Binh Thuan Agricultural Extension established a Youtube channel with more than 30 videos and clips developed and built. In addition, more than 50 news articles and images were posted on the unit's website. This is a great effort to rise up in the context of limited and difficult conditions in terms of facilities, human resources, and information capacity.
Along with that, in order to contribute to the direction of transparent and responsible agriculture, product branding and multi-channel sales, the center has organized over 150 training courses, seminars, and integrated implementation to introduce Binh Thuan digital agriculture with more than 2,000 people being propagandized and popularized. In the last 3 months of 2024, it is expected that more than 100 more training courses will be deployed, integrated with the Digital Transformation Promotion Program.
In order to focus on the direction of activities in the last months of 2024 and the agricultural extension program in 2025, the sharing in building effective community agricultural extension teams, suggestions in promoting digital transformation, and orientations in implementing agricultural extension programs and projects in the coming time are outlined in detail, with focus, contributing to the implementation of a modern, sustainable, high-value-added Binh Thuan agriculture.
The leader of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center said that in the coming time, the unit hopes to continue to be a bridge between cooperatives, agricultural enterprises with agricultural technical and service centers, agricultural departments, and farmers to truly shift from the model of "supportive agricultural extension" to "connected agricultural extension", from production to consumption of agricultural products.
