At the online training conference, the trainees listened to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu - Deputy Director of the Southern Fruit Institute share some information about the dragon fruit market in particular and exported fruit trees in general. At the same time, he introduced some new dragon fruit varieties and advanced dragon fruit cultivation processes; techniques for preventing and treating major diseases on dragon fruit trees. Thereby, the trainees were equipped with knowledge about the market, varieties and measures for disease-free dragon fruit cultivation, aiming for sustainability and international integration. The purpose is to change the production mindset towards integration, only producing and selling products according to the needs of the market, not selling and producing our existing products.

According to the leader of the provincial Agricultural Extension Center, Binh Thuan's current goal in developing dragon fruit is to promote the production, processing and consumption of dragon fruit in a low-carbon, sustainable and climate change-adaptive direction. At the same time, develop domestic and international markets, promote supply chain linkages between stakeholders.

In particular, focusing on the value chain of dragon fruit, as this is one of the 10 main fruit crops in Vietnam. Transforming the production, processing and consumption of dragon fruit towards low carbon emissions, sustainability and climate change adaptation, and market development requires an appropriate management system, promoting transparency through digital transformation and establishing close links between stakeholders in the value chain, including farmers, cooperatives, businesses and distributors. Transparency in the production process, compliance with quality standards, product traceability, including tracking of important factors such as the carbon footprint of dragon fruit are indispensable for agricultural trends to meet international commitments and national action strategies towards a sustainable future with “Net zero” emissions.

It is known that up to now, the whole province has 26,500 hectares of dragon fruit, of which 8,593 hectares of dragon fruit are certified to meet VietGAP standards.
