On May 31, a serious riverbank landslide occurred on the Binh Thuy River (in Binh Yen A area, Long Hoa Ward, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City), affecting 10 houses. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any human casualties, but caused heavy property damage.
Serious riverbank erosion has just occurred on Binh Thuy River, Can Tho City.
According to local residents, the landslide happened very quickly after a long crack suddenly appeared on the floor of their house. "Last year, when we saw the crack, my family reinforced it once but it was not stable, we always live in fear. Now the house has collapsed but I still don't know where to move," said Le Thi Nam, 70 years old, a victim of the landslide.

After receiving the news, leaders of the Civil Defense, Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command of Can Tho City and the People's Committee of Binh Thuy District arrived at the scene to direct the work of overcoming the consequences. More dangerous cracks are appearing in the landslide area.
By noon of the same day, local authorities mobilized many forces to support households in moving their property, stretching ropes, and putting up danger warning signs to help people avoid them.
The Binh Thuy District Civil Defense, Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command has also requested Can Tho City to use the city's disaster prevention fund to support households in moving their belongings and assets to a safe place.
Local authorities mobilized functional forces to assist people in moving their belongings and overcoming landslides.
In addition, Binh Thuy District also directed wards to continue to propagate to households living along rivers, canals, and Binh Thuy River to move unnecessary items close to the riverbank to avoid the risk of landslides causing property loss.
Binh Thuy River, which is located in an area with a high risk of landslides in Can Tho City, has been proposed to build anti-erosion embankments on both sides of the river to protect people's houses and properties as well as riverside structures.
Previously, in Can Tho City, a landslide also occurred on National Highway 80 along the Cai San River bank.
Previously, also in Can Tho, on May 30, a section of National Highway 80 along the Cai San River in Thot Not District also suffered a landslide and subsidence, with a length of 41 m, a width of 4 m, eating deep into the road surface. The landslide caused difficulties for vehicles traveling between Can Tho City, Kien Giang, and An Giang. After the incident, vehicles passing through here had to drive slowly, leading to traffic congestion. The consequences of the landslide are still being resolved.
