In the final match of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, Hong Phuc was sent onto the field by coach Hoang Anh Tuan from the 79th minute to replace Khuat Van Khang.
In the 113th minute, he and defender Haykal Alhafiz of U23 Indonesia had a fight for the ball near the sideline.
In this play, defender Haykal Alhafiz leaned forward to tackle the ball, forcing Hong Phuc to jump up to avoid it.
But his landing accidentally let his arm touch the neck of the U23 Indonesian player.
Referee Hiroki Kasahara also determined that it was just an unintentional foul so he did not penalize Hong Phuc.
Meanwhile, Indonesia believes that it was a foul play by the U23 Vietnam defender and wants the AFF to impose a penalty.
Madura United Club President Achsanul Qosasi even advised the Indonesian Football Federation to leave AFF if Hong Phuc did not receive a penalty.
But up to now, the AFF still agrees with the decision of referee Hiroki Kasahara and has not imposed any punishment on the star of U23 Vietnam.
