The Ministry of Transport has just approved the Gia Binh International Airport Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.


Separate planning for terminals serving private aircraft and passenger terminals

Gia Binh International Airport in Gia Binh District, Bac Ninh Province, is planned as a shared civil and security airport.

In the 2021-2030 period, the port is planned to be a 4E airport (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO), meeting the capacity of about 1 million passengers/year and 250,000 tons of cargo/year.

The aircraft types in operation are B777, B787, A350, A321 and other special purpose aircraft, with CAT II standard landing approach at end 07 of the runway, simple at end 25 of the runway.

In this phase, the runway 07-25 direction is planned, with dimensions of 3,500 m x 45 m; material curb size is according to regulations. At the same time, the taxiway parallel to the south of the runway is planned; the connecting taxiway system and the synchronous quick exit taxiway are planned to connect the parallel taxiway with the runway and the apron.

In particular, the planning of the helicopter parking system serving the People's Public Security Air Force Regiment, as well as the planning of the civil aviation parking area serving special aircraft and civil aviation aircraft, will provide about 11 parking positions.

As for the passenger terminal, Gia Binh airport is planned to include a terminal serving special aircraft - VIP terminal in the south of the special aircraft parking area, with a land area of ​​about 3.2 hectares.

The passenger terminal is planned to operate civil aviation combined with general aviation in the southwest of the VIP terminal with a capacity of about 1 million passengers/year in the period 2021-2030.

The cargo terminal is planned to the southwest of the passenger terminal, with a capacity of about 250,000 tons of cargo/year.

By 2050, Gia Binh International Airport is planned to accommodate a capacity of approximately 3 million passengers/year and 1 million tons of cargo/year. The airport will operate B777, B787, A350, A321 aircraft and other special-purpose aircraft.

The taxiway system is planned to add a number of taxiways connecting from parallel taxiways to the aircraft parking lot with material curb sizes according to regulations.

During this period, the port is also planned to expand the civil aviation airport parking area to accommodate about 26 parking positions. In addition, the passenger terminal will be expanded to accommodate a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year. The cargo terminal will be expanded to accommodate a capacity of about 1 million tons/year, with land reserved for development when needed.

Items such as the Air Traffic Control Tower and the flight operations center are planned to be located northeast of the passenger terminal, with an area of ​​about 1.33 hectares.

The DVOR/DME navigation system is planned about 100 m north of the runway centerline and about 800 m west of the 7 runway ends.

With systems such as weather radar, automatic meteorological observation system (AWOS) and other flight operations assurance facilities planned when needed. Specific locations will be determined during the project implementation phase.

The planning approved by the Ministry of Transport also specifies common technical infrastructure systems such as internal port roads, car parking systems, power supply and lighting systems, water supply and drainage systems, wastewater treatment systems, etc.

The land use demand for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 of Gia Binh International Airport is about 363.5 hectares of security land. Of which, the land planned for works in the airport area is about 246.3 hectares; the land planned for civil aviation works is about 85.8 hectares and the land planned for barracks works is about 31.4 hectares.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is responsible for studying and accepting the Appraisal Report of the Department of Planning and Investment to complete the planning dossier. At the same time, it shall preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province and relevant agencies to organize the announcement, management and implementation of the planning according to regulations.

The People's Committee of Bac Ninh province is responsible for reviewing and updating the above planning contents into the local planning and related planning. In addition, arranging and protecting land funds in accordance with the approved planning, having plans for planning and land use plans to ensure that land funds are ready to meet the needs of expansion development according to the planning.

The locality is also responsible for completing the planning and investing in the traffic route connecting the airport with the capital Hanoi to ensure the exploitation and connection capacity of Gia Binh International Airport.
