Sweat pours down, the rice plants grow green
These days, the vast fields of the agricultural communes of Phu Luong, Phu Gia, Phu Ho, Phu My… are covered in a lush green color of winter-spring rice that is about to bloom. Along those fields are the footsteps of farmers diligently taking care of…
The appointment with Mr. Ho Loi, a farmer in Thanh Lam Bo village, Phu Gia commune, had to be "postponed" several times because he was busy with nearly 20 hectares of rice produced by his family. The hard-working, experienced farmer said: Like many other farmers, if they want the crop to have high output and productivity, from the beginning to the harvest, every "step" must be carefully prepared; must stick close to the fields, "stick" to the rice plants every day, every hour, take care of them with the right techniques, according to each stage of rice development.
“Thanks to rice, the family economy of each farming household is increasingly developing, thereby contributing to the construction of new rural areas in the area. Therefore, not only capital, but farmers also “invest” in each crop with their thoughts and hopes. Therefore, we have to diligently take care of rice like taking care of our own children. Fortunately, up to now, the weather has been favorable, the rice plants are growing healthily and favorably” - old farmer Ho Loi confided.
Mr. Dao Duc Toan, Director of Phu Gia Agricultural Cooperative, shared: The Cooperative always accompanies and stands side by side with farmers. Right from the beginning of the season, thanks to the proactiveness and positivity of the Cooperative and farmers in closely following the fields, monitoring weather developments, enhancing drainage capacity, and taking advantage of favorable weather to speed up the planting progress, so far the winter-spring crop has ensured the set plan.
In other purely agricultural communes in Phu Vang district, the care of winter-spring rice is also being focused and effective. According to Mr. Ngo Duc Phong, Director of Phu Luong I Cooperative (Phu Luong commune), right after Tet, farmers in the area went to the fields to take care of pruning and fertilizing the rice plants. Currently, the rice fields are growing well, and no serious pests or diseases have been detected.
Focus on many measures
Coming to Phu Ho, one of the big "rice granaries" of Phu Vang, on the fields covered in green, in the sunshine of the last days of March, are protective clothing soaked with sweat. Farmers greet visitors with happy eyes and smiles. Mr. Dao Huu Bich, Chairman of Phu Ho Commune People's Committee said that the development of rice in the area up to this point has been very favorable. That is the effort and sweat of the people.
In addition, in recent times, the Commune People's Committee has directed agricultural cooperatives to coordinate with all levels and sectors to promptly forecast the situation of pests and diseases and preventive measures for farmers. At the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilize farmers to proactively visit fields regularly to promptly detect harmful pests and diseases and have effective preventive measures; guide farmers to identify each type of pest and disease and preventive measures; proactively use pesticides when pests occur, avoid subjectivity and negligence to let pests and diseases spread widely, affecting the quality and productivity of rice.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Vang district, said: Cooperatives in the district have propagated, mobilized, and guided farmers to take measures to care for winter-spring rice; pruned the rice area to ensure density; applied fertilizer according to the correct process for the rice plants to grow and develop well; organized the catching of golden apple snails and exterminating rats in batches using manual measures or biological drugs. At the same time, the department also closely followed the area, together with farmers, proactively forecasting the situation of pests and diseases and to detect early and handle promptly when pests and diseases appear, not allowing pests and diseases to spread widely, affecting the yield and quality of rice.
In order to achieve high productivity in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, recently, the People's Committee of Phu Vang district has directed all levels and functional branches to coordinate with communes and towns to focus on taking good care of rice plants. In particular, focusing on ensuring reasonable irrigation water for rice plants to grow and develop. The People's Committee of the district has directed relevant units to closely coordinate in providing electricity and pumping water in a timely manner according to production requirements, not to let the fields lack water. The communes, based on actual conditions, proactively store and regulate water reasonably, creating favorable conditions for rice plants to grow. The People's Committee of the district continues to direct all levels and functional branches to coordinate with communes and towns to accompany cooperatives and farmers in the area in taking care of the fields, ensuring a successful crop.
