On the occasion of the recent Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, Mr. Pham Van Tuong's family in Dong Tam village, Quang Truong commune sold over 1 ton of commercial rabbits, with prices ranging from 85 to 100 thousand VND/kg, bringing in a profit of nearly 100 million VND. This is a worthy achievement after months of focusing on the rabbit crop, supplying the market during Tet. Thanks to the application of techniques and many years of experience in raising rabbits, Mr. Tuong's family has become a reputable address providing commercial rabbits in Quang Truong commune.
Mr. Pham Van Tuong's family (Dong Tam village, Quang Truong commune) focused on cleaning the barn and importing breeding rabbits to restock after Tet.
Mr. Tuong shared: "Right after Tet, my family focused on repairing and upgrading barns, spraying disinfectants, and disinfecting around the livestock area. The herd restoration is to maintain production for the new year, however, this is also a time of harsh weather, cold and continuous humidity, so my family is very careful, paying special attention to disease prevention. When the weather is warm and sunny, favorable for the livestock to develop, we will continue to multiply the herd at home and import more rabbits to raise. In addition to raising rabbits, after Tet Giap Thin, my family will develop more chicken flocks to increase income."
Similarly, the family of Mr. Doan Dinh Phuc, Thuong Dinh 2 village, Quang Dinh commune sold about 15 tons of commercial chickens during the recent Tet holiday. Currently, Mr. Phuc's family is preparing to raise a new batch of about 7,000 chickens. Mr. Phuc said: Re-herding and increasing the herd after Tet needs to be careful because this is the time of changing seasons, the raised animals are susceptible to diseases, especially chickens. Therefore, when re-herding, the source of breeding animals must be imported from reputable breeding farms and checked for quality, fully vaccinated, and have a guaranteed food source. In addition, for the barn system, it is necessary to regularly disinfect, sterilize, clear the drains, avoid moisture, ensure the best hygiene, and minimize the conditions for disease outbreaks. My family has paid attention to this regularly and increased it for the re-herding after Tet. Only then can we achieve the goal of increasing the number of chickens raised for sale of commercial chickens higher than the same period.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Xuong District, Le Dai Hiep, said: During the recent Lunar New Year, a large number of livestock and poultry in the district were sold to meet consumer demand, thus the total livestock herd in the district decreased sharply. Therefore, the work of restocking livestock after Tet is important in stabilizing livestock activities and proactively supplying food to the market. Currently, farms and livestock households are actively preparing conditions to focus on restocking and increasing herds in combination with disease prevention for livestock herds according to the recommendations of professional agencies.
In 2024, Quang Xuong set a target of striving for a total herd of livestock and poultry of over 1.14 million. To achieve this goal, the district directed functional agencies and localities to focus on advising and guiding livestock establishments and households to re-herd and increase herds to ensure disease safety. Before re-herding, households need to thoroughly clean their barns with lime powder, disinfectant solutions, and disinfect livestock equipment; clear bushes, unclog sewers, collect and dispose of waste in accordance with regulations; renovate barns to ensure they are high, airy, and protected from rain and wind, etc.
The selection of breeding stock must be done carefully, at reputable facilities, ensuring quality, breeding stock must be healthy, have a clear origin and have been vaccinated according to veterinary regulations; do not import breeding stock from epidemic areas to avoid damage and affect disease safety in the area. For young livestock and poultry, it is necessary to pay attention to heating, especially at night; provide clean food and water, ensure nutritious diet, add vitamins and digestive enzymes to food and water to improve resistance for healthy livestock development.
This year's unusual weather conditions are favorable conditions for livestock and poultry diseases to develop and possibly break out. Therefore, in addition to restoring livestock, the agricultural sector recommends that livestock farmers strengthen disease prevention and control, promote biosafety measures, and vaccinate all types of vaccines regularly; proactively seek information on market forecasts and developments, supply and demand, and product consumption areas to invest in livestock development in accordance with the actual situation, not to restock massively, and avoid losses when entering the new production season. This is also an important basis for the district to promote the development of concentrated livestock and poultry farms, industrial-scale production, value chain linkage, and increase the number of farms applying VietGAP standards (currently, there are 24 farms applying VietGAP standards). Thereby, striving to successfully complete the set goals and tasks.
