On October 24, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued an official dispatch on response to storm Tra Mi (storm No. 6).

Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung assigned departments, branches and localities to strengthen inspection and review of coastal residential areas, riverside, streamside, low-lying areas, areas at risk of flooding, flash floods, landslides, etc., and proactively evacuate people to safe places.

The Provincial Border Guard Command, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and coastal localities shall count and use all means to notify ships and boats operating at sea to proactively avoid and escape from dangerous areas, and take measures to ensure safety for people and boats at anchorage areas.

In addition, the Chairman of Quang Nam also assigned the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications and relevant sectors and units to review and propose the purchase of specialized materials, means and equipment for disaster prevention and control.

In the immediate future, satellite phones will be provided to the Provincial Party Secretary and Provincial Chairman to serve the direction of response to storm Tra Mi and natural disasters in 2024, ensuring smooth operation and communication when situations arise.

Quang Nam has also developed two evacuation plans in case the storm makes direct landfall in the locality. In case of a strong storm, the entire province will evacuate 212,000 people; in case of a super storm, 396,000 people will be evacuated.

Currently, military, police and border forces are ready with plans and human resources to respond to situations when storm No. 6 makes landfall.

As of noon today (October 24), Quang Nam still has 55 fishing boats with 2,208 workers operating at sea. Of these, 2 boats have left the storm danger zone and 53 boats have entered safe shelters.

Also this morning, the Military Command of Quang Nam province went directly to coastal communes to inspect and direct storm prevention and control work.

Here, the Provincial Military Command requested the District and Commune Military Commands to prepare forces and means on the spot to help people reinforce their houses and evacuate people to safety, especially coastal and mountainous areas at high risk of landslides.

At the same time, coordinate with border guards to directly contact vehicles to find safe shelters; prepare forces, vehicles, and food to proactively participate in preventing and overcoming the consequences of storms and floods, and rescue when situations occur in the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Huu Ich, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Quang Nam Provincial Military Command, said that the Provincial Military Command has proactively advised mountainous localities such as Nam Tra My, Bac Tra My, Tay Giang and Nam Giang to quickly identify areas at risk of landslides to evacuate people to safety.

In 6 coastal districts, the unit also coordinated with local authorities to call on boats to take shelter in safe places; mobilized local shock forces at the commune level to reinforce houses and prepare for storms.

Quang Nam Chairman: 'I don't want any officials to be disciplined after storm Tra Mi' Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Chairman Le Van Dung requested that the heads of localities and units must be on duty to prevent storm Tra Mi and avoid talking without doing anything. He also said he hoped that after the storm, no one would be suspended or disciplined for not completing their tasks.
