On the morning of March 21, at Hon La Economic Zone (in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district), Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee, Hon La Port Joint Stock Company, and Consulting - Construction VPCC Joint Stock Company held the groundbreaking ceremony for phase 1 of the Hon La International General Port construction investment project.

According to the design, the Port has the function of loading and unloading general cargo, containers, bulk cargo, liquid cargo (except gasoline and oil), international passenger ships, receiving ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 DWT and larger to meet current urgent needs.
Phase 1: Construction of 02 ports with a total length of 470m, of which wharf 1 is 230m long and wharf 2 is 240m long; receiving general cargo ships with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons, bulk cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons. Expected capacity is about 03 million tons/year.
Phase 2: Construction of 02 Ports, total length 500m, of which wharf No. 3 is 240m long and wharf No. 4 is 260m long with a synchronous logistics system; receiving ships with a capacity of 70,000DWT-100,000DWT entering and exiting.
Total expected capacity for 02 phases is about 6 million tons/year, phase 1 completed in Q1/2026; phase 2 completed in Q4/2027.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Phong - Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee said: The groundbreaking of Hon La International General Port project is an important milestone in the development of the province's seaport infrastructure, opening up opportunities for trade connection with major economic centers in the country and internationally. Especially with its favorable location in terms of sea lanes and road traffic, when completed and put into use, Hon La International General Port will become an important freight transit bridge in the region, receiving two-way goods from Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China and major economic centers by sea.
"Not only playing an important role in freight transport, the Port also has the function of receiving international cruise ships, opening up opportunities for developing sea tourism, contributing to creating sustainable growth momentum for Quang Binh province," Mr. Tran Phong expected.
