Many parents with children preparing to enter grades 1 and 6 in Ho Chi Minh City are worried about whether the admission process for the first grade will change and how it will be implemented, as the city has yet to announce the admission plan for the first grade.

Worried about which school my child will go to?

Having a child studying in grade 5 at an elementary school in Thu Duc City, Ms. Trang's family has been worried these past few days about which school her child will be able to attend for grade 6 next school year.

"I found out that the ward where my family lives has a middle school that is rated as good quality. If the school is assigned based on proximity to home like last year, my child will have a chance to get into that school. But we are worried that if there is a change, it will be difficult for my child to get into that school," Ms. Trang worried.

Also having a child preparing to enter 6th grade next school year, Mr. Dung (Phu Nhuan District) said that his daughter is studying 5th grade at an elementary school in Phu Nhuan District near his old house. For the past two years, he and his wife have moved to a new house in Go Vap District.

Because the child is familiar with the class and school, the couple also tries to let the child continue studying in Phu Nhuan district and plans to transfer to a middle school in Go Vap district when the child finishes grade 5 to study near home and convenient for commuting.

However, recent information has made the couple extremely worried. Every dinner, the couple talks about not knowing which school their child will be assigned to... The more they talk, the more confused they become because they don't know what the school assignment will be like this year, where the family will receive information and where to register their child...

Meanwhile, with two children about to move up to grade level, one entering grade 1 and the other entering grade 6, Ms. Thuy (Binh Tan District) said that at this time, she and her husband are in a state of confusion because of their children's upcoming schooling. Because with the child entering grade 1, she asked the kindergarten teacher to see which ward the list would be transferred to, but the teacher told her that they did not have the information.

"I live in Binh Tan district but work in district 10, so I want my child to study in an area near my office for convenience. But until now I have not received official information, I am worried that my child will have to study in a school far from where I work, I cannot take him to and from school, which is very difficult for the whole family," Ms. Thuy expressed.

Try to finish the primary school admission work soon.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, over the past two years, the department has implemented primary school enrollment using a geographic information system (GIS). It is expected that primary school enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year will also inherit and promote high efficiency and overcome the limitations of primary school enrollment in the past two years.

According to an official from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the department also wants to push the admission process for primary school students forward and has worked with the education and training departments of districts and Thu Duc City to be proactive in admissions, creating the most favorable conditions for primary school students.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre, a head of the education and training department of a district in Ho Chi Minh City said that the enrollment for the first level in this district is still being carried out as in previous years and is currently carrying out the stages, working with relevant agencies to be ready to carry out the enrollment work when the city has an official plan.

"We are carefully preparing for the primary school enrollment work, promoting to parents so that when the City People's Committee issues the primary school enrollment plan, we will let parents scan the code immediately. We want to start the primary school enrollment work early, striving to complete it before July 1," said the head of this department.

Study near actual residence

According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2025-2026 school year, the enrollment work at the primary level in Ho Chi Minh City will be carried out online at https://tuyensinhdaucap.hcm.edu.vn, through the student's identification code and "actual residence" on VNeID.

"Thu Duc City People's Committee and districts will base on the local school situation to flexibly recruit students at the beginning of the school year. Localities will combine the use of the city's shared digital map system to calculate the travel distance of students, not allocating students according to ward administrative boundaries. This method aims to create conditions for students to study near their actual residence and ensure that schools recruit enough students according to the education development plan," said Mr. Quoc.

According to Mr. Quoc, enrollment for the first grades (from kindergarten to high school) for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will be completed in June, instead of August as usual.

"To prepare for this work, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has deployed a number of contents with the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and districts to ensure the enrollment of preschool, grade 1, grade 6, and grade 10 on schedule.

In particular, the enrollment work for the first grades of kindergarten, grade 1, grade 6, grade 10, and high school graduation will be completed by Ho Chi Minh City in June 2025. The grade 10 entrance exam is scheduled to take place on June 6 and 7; the high school graduation exam in 2025 will take place on June 26 and 27.

Currently, the department is waiting for the City People's Committee to decide to recognize high-quality schools (advanced schools, international integration) in the new period, from which the department will advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue a plan to enroll students in the first grade classes" - Mr. Quoc shared.
