Ho Chi Minh City announces 10th grade enrollment plan

On the morning of March 30, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a plan for 10th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, students registering for grade 10 admission to public schools and specialized high schools will do so entirely online.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the subjects eligible for 10th grade admission are students who graduated from junior high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City within the prescribed age.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City has 2 methods of enrolling 10th grade students:

+ Admission : For Thanh An Secondary and High School, Can Gio district (only for students who graduated from secondary school at this school in the 2024 - 2025 school year).

+ Entrance exam : Conducted for candidates graduating from secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City. The entrance exam process is carried out in 2 stages:

Phase 1: Students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools.

Phase 2: Depending on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of high schools, the Department of Education and Training will decide on additional enrollment and issue written instructions to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of recruiting enough enrollment quotas for schools that are still lacking many quotas.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also advised students to choose to register their wishes near their current residence to avoid the case of being admitted but not submitting their admission application.

Candidates will take 3 essay tests including math, literature (120 minutes/subject), foreign language (foreign language 1 being studied at school, test time 90 minutes). The expected test date is June 6 and 7, 2025.

According to the City People's Committee, the test score is the sum of the component scores of each question in the test, the test score is calculated on a 10-point scale, with odd points up to 0.25. The admission score is the sum of the three test scores and additional points for priority and incentive candidates. Successful candidates must take all three tests and not have any test score of 0.

Increase application questions in 10th grade entrance exam

According to Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training - 2025 is the first year that 9th grade students will take the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 general education program.

"Therefore, the ratio of knowledge levels in the exam is also adjusted, reducing the level of recognition and understanding, increasing the rate of application. For entrance exams from 2024 and before, due to the application of the 2006 general education program, the number of questions at the level of recognition and understanding will account for 70 - 75% of the knowledge in the exam.

From 2025, the number of questions requiring knowledge and understanding will decrease to 60%, and the number of questions requiring application will increase to 40%.

This adjustment aims to assess the ability to apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems - according to the orientation of the 2018 general education program" - Mr. Quoc said.
