On the morning of March 26, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung had a working session with the People's Committee of District 6 about the Cho Lon night street project. At the meeting, the locality provided detailed information about the night street project after a period of surveying and receiving comments from departments and branches.

The night street is expected to exploit the sidewalk space of 4 streets: Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, Tran Binh (around Binh Tay market). The total area of the night street is about 1,510m2 , divided into 7 functional areas with 41 stalls, operating from 6pm to midnight every day.

Food trucks, mini handcarts, parking lots, stages, public toilets, miniature landscapes - artistic lighting, community spaces - connecting street art... will be arranged around the night street area.

More than 40 booths will sell food, cultural products, souvenirs, technology products, youth fashion, etc. The stage area is expected to exploit the existing yard space to organize cultural events and exchanges during night street activities.

The units will design and construct a welcome gate and symbol at the intersection of Nguyen Huu Than Street and Thap Muoi Street to create recognition and attract tourists to take photos and check-in. The technical infrastructure system (electricity and water supply) is completely underground.

The People's Committee of District 6 has also planned to arrange the water supply and drainage system, environmental sanitation and operation management - initial support for small traders. According to the plan, the management and operation of the entire night street will be coordinated and responsible by the Binh Tay Market Management Board.

According to Ms. Vuong Thanh Lieu - Vice Chairman of District 6 People's Committee, the Cho Lon night street project is associated with the development of district tourism with the highlight being Binh Tay market - a city-level architectural work of art. The further goal is that the night street will connect with the tourist clusters of District 11 and District 5 (Ha Ton Quyen dumpling street, Hai Thuong Lan Ong street, Chau Van Liem street), thereby forming a large tourist area of the city.

Ms. Lieu also said that when organizing business within the night street, Thap Muoi street in front of Binh Tay market still ensures sidewalks for pedestrians. Around the night street are mainly houses for rent for business during the day, at night most of the "doors are closed" so it has little impact on people's lives.

Emphasizing the locality's viewpoint of not following the general trend, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thao - Chairman of District 6 People's Committee - said that the project aims at the long-term goal of the night street to exist and develop. In addition, the Hang Bang canal flowing through Phan Van Khoe street behind Binh Tay market, when completed, will be an important landmark of the night street, contributing to promoting the image of "on the wharf, under the boat" to tourists.

District 6 is located in the southwest of Ho Chi Minh City, bordering districts 11, 5, 8, Tan Phu and Binh Tan. In the district, Binh Tay market is recognized by the City People's Committee as an architectural and artistic relic and a tourist destination. In recent times, the number of visitors to visit and shop at Binh Tay market has increased. Of which, about 20,000 foreign visitors attend the festival, visit and shop (accounting for 73%).
