On June 27, in The Hague (Netherlands), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Mark Harbers co-chaired the 8th meeting of the Vietnam-Netherlands Intergovernmental Committee on climate change adaptation and water management.
Attending the meeting on the Vietnamese side were representatives of the leaders of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Natural Resources and Environment, Planning and Investment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Transport, the Government Office and the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands.
On the Dutch side, there were representatives from the Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management; Foreign Affairs; Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality; representatives of the Netherlands Organization for International Education Cooperation (NUFFIC), the Dutch Committee for Environmental Assessment and experts from a number of Dutch research institutes and universities.

In his opening speech, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha expressed his delight at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation relationship over the past 50 years, including the strategic partnership on climate change adaptation and water management.
Since the 7th Session, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the two sides have actively implemented 19 bilateral cooperation contents, of which 10 contents have been completed, notably: Mekong Delta Regional Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; Mekong River Basin Integrated Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, along with the establishment of a Regional Coordination Council based on the recommendations of the Mekong Delta Plan (MDP).
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha thanked the Netherlands for its active and effective contributions to sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam; and hoped that the Netherlands would support Vietnam in implementing green transformation, renewable energy, water resource management and climate change response.

Minister and Head of the Dutch Delegation Mark Harbers warmly welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha to visit and co-chair the 8th Session, emphasizing that the Deputy Prime Minister's visit is of great significance, taking place on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1973-2023); highly appreciating the Deputy Prime Minister's participation and contributions at the Summit on the New Global Financial Compact recently held in France.
At the meeting, the two sides reviewed and assessed the implementation of cooperation activities within the framework of the Agreement adopted at the 7th Session; conducted a strategic policy dialogue on climate change response and water management, and updated policies and priority activities on climate change and water management of Vietnam and the Netherlands.
Given the potential for cooperation between the two sides, the Vietnamese side has proposed specific cooperation in priority areas of climate change, water management, green agriculture, circular economy, flood management, seaports, digital transformation, human resource training, etc.
The Netherlands positively acknowledged the proposals and affirmed that it will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies of Vietnam. The two sides agreed on new potential cooperation contents between the two countries for the coming period, including the signing of a Joint Cooperation Plan in the field of sustainable offshore sand mining.

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and Minister of Infrastructure and Environment Mark Harbers signed the Minutes of the 8th Meeting of the Vietnam-Netherlands Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management, agreeing that the 9th Meeting will be held in Vietnam, the specific time will be decided by the two sides through diplomatic channels.
