Double benefit
Recognized as a tea village since 2014, Vinh Tan tea village, Tan Trao commune (Son Duong) has over 85% of households living off tea production with a total area of nearly 200 hectares of tea. Mr. Pham Ngoc Thanh, Head of Vinh Tan village, said that there was a time when it seemed like the tea making profession was fading away. Fortunately, the province and district have policies to preserve and develop, and Vinh Tan tea village has been revived. In recent years, Tan Trao commune has combined historical tourism with experiential tourism in the craft village. In addition to tea production, Vinh Tan people grow tea in concentrated areas, tea hills are trimmed to create eye-catching shapes, and tea is cared for according to clean processes. Coming to the craft village, in addition to visiting the tea hills, visitors can also experience tea picking, tea roasting, and enjoy hot cups of tea... completely free of charge. "Tourists can experience making tea and buy and give away tea products, this is a good channel to introduce products. Villagers are happy to enjoy double benefits from developing craft villages associated with tourism" - Mr. Thanh said.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, Hoang Mai district (Hanoi) shared that she chose to travel to Tan Trao because she wanted her family to review the heroic historical traditions of the nation and to experience the fresh natural air and the endless green tea hills of Vinh Tan tea village after a stressful time of work and study. She and her family were very happy to pick tea, participate in the tea drying and packaging processes and take photos on the terraced tea hills. She bought clean specialty tea for her own use and as gifts for friends and relatives. She found this an interesting experiential tour for a weekend with family and friends at a reasonable cost.
Lam Binh district not only has majestic natural beauty, but also preserves the cultural features and traditional costumes of 13 ethnic groups. To develop tourism products, the district focuses on restoring and developing traditional crafts such as brocade weaving. This is a long-standing craft, not only serving the daily needs of the people, but now the district's brocade weaving products have been positively received by tourists.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tiep, a member of Lam Binh Brocade Cooperative, said that the weaving profession has been passed down through her family for many generations. In previous years, her family only wove products such as blankets, skirts, and shirts for wearing, but now the demand for brocade products to serve tourists is increasing. Therefore, households that still maintain the weaving profession have gathered to establish Lam Binh Brocade Cooperative. Currently, the Cooperative receives orders for brocade products from accommodation establishments, homestays, and shops, mainly brocade towels, pillowcases, and blankets... Depending on the product, weavers earn a profit of 200,000 VND - 1.5 million VND/product. On average, Ms. Tiep can make 15 - 20 products per month, thereby increasing her family's income.
Timely mechanisms and policies
Currently, the province has 8 recognized craft villages, all of which are tea villages of Son Duong district. To develop craft villages and traditional crafts, Tuyen Quang province has implemented many solutions, mechanisms and policies to support and develop agriculture and craft villages such as: Resolution No. 03 of the Provincial People's Council on policies to support the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production; OCOP products and new rural construction; Resolution on the development of specialty plants and animals... At the same time, the province also allocates resources to invest in the development of traditional craft villages such as: Transferring scientific and technical advances; supporting trade promotion, product promotion...

Thanks to the province's timely mechanisms and policies, a number of occupations and villages with occupations are being restored and assessed, such as: Gai cake craft, Vinh Loc town, Cot weaving craft, Vinh Quang commune, Trung Hoa (Chiem Hoa); Brocade weaving craft in Thuong Lam, Khuon Ha, Binh An communes, Lang Can town (Lam Binh); beeswax painting craft, Khau Trang village, Hong Thai commune (Na Hang); field fish sauce processing craft, Trung Ha, Hoa Phu, Kim Binh communes (Chiem Hoa)...
In particular, every year, Tuyen Quang province also organizes the program of displaying and introducing tourism products and craft villages. The program is an opportunity for businesses to widely promote tourism products, OCOP products, handicraft products, and typical traditional craft villages of localities inside and outside the province, contributing to enhancing brand value and preserving the value of traditional craft villages.
Comrade Nguyen Tien Hung, Director of the Provincial Investment Promotion Center, said that the display of tourism products, OCOP products, handicraft products, and typical traditional craft villages during the festival will be an opportunity to promote products that many tourists know. In the coming time, the center will increase product introductions at trade fairs in and outside the province; build product introduction and display points at tourist areas and spots to ensure quality service for tourists.
In order for craft villages and traditional crafts to develop sustainably in association with tourism, Tuyen Quang province needs to have a team of human resources to serve tourism, support artisans to stick with their profession and promote vocational training activities; localities to build brands for traditional craft products; link tourism development, connect tours and routes to craft villages and traditional craft production sites...
