On January 12, Can Tho University held a ceremony to announce and award the decision to recognize the Rector of Can Tho University (term 2020-2025) to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Tinh. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, after 58 years of construction and development, thanks to the nurturing of many generations, Can Tho University has continuously grown and enhanced its reputation. However, the school still has many problems to overcome such as: large organizational structure, limited budget, inflexible administrative management, and failure to create autonomy and self-responsibility for units. Therefore, he clearly feels the responsibility, challenges and expectations of everyone for him in his leadership role.
During the 2020-2025 term, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Tinh set the goal of developing Can Tho University in a multidisciplinary and multi-field direction; Perfecting the streamlined and efficient organizational structure; Establishing Can Tho University branches in Hau Giang and Soc Trang; Building a smart school model; Forming key laboratories combined with strong research groups, accessing prestigious science funds; Perfecting the innovation and startup ecosystem. In addition, diversifying revenue sources, striving for the school's budget to reach 1,000 billion VND by the end of 2025.
Another goal is to gradually turn Can Tho University into a place to train people who are adaptable to change, professional, capable in leadership, management, and promote creativity in many different environments.

"I pledge to create all conditions and gather all officials, employees and students of the school to best promote the spirit of solidarity, generosity and dedication of the Southern people to build Can Tho University to develop strongly, worthy of being a key university in the country, with a position and reputation in the region and the world," Mr. Tinh shared.
At the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son congratulated Mr. Tran Trung Tinh and thanked Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, former Rector of Can Tho University (retired), for his remarkable contributions. The Minister said that the Mekong Delta has 13 universities and 5 university branches. Of which, Can Tho University has the most important and long-standing position, so it is necessary to promote its role of leading, guiding and supporting the remaining universities in developing high-quality human resources.
The Minister believes that, as a regional university, Can Tho University needs to focus on developing key science and technology sectors. Especially: agriculture, aquaculture, engineering, administration, and business. In response to new requirements of the education sector, the Minister expects Mr. Tran Trung Tinh to have breakthrough decisions and contributions that are suitable for practice; promote unity, consensus, and understanding within the collective to further develop Can Tho University.
