US President-elect Donald Trump continues to support candidate Pete Hegseth to head the Pentagon.
In a post on Truth Social on December 6, Mr. Trump praised Mr. Hegseth as someone with the charisma, experience and enthusiasm to lead the US Department of Defense. "Mr. Pete is a winner, and nothing can change that," Mr. Trump wrote.

Reuters reported that Mr. Hegseth is facing difficulties in being approved by the US Senate for Mr. Trump’s new cabinet. Recently, there have been accusations of sexual harassment and alcohol abuse, which Mr. Hegseth denies.
In an interview with NBC News on December 6, Mr. Trump also admitted that some congressmen were concerned about the nomination for the position of US Secretary of Defense, but the President-elect was still confident that Mr. Hegseth would be approved by the Senate.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Trump might choose Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to replace Hegseth if he fails to win a majority of senators. The last time a presidential nomination was rejected by the Senate was in 1989, when the late President George H.W. Bush chose John Tower to also serve as Secretary of Defense.
Since accepting the nomination, Mr. Hegseth has met with many senators, especially those who are still undecided. On December 6, he wrote a letter thanking Mr. Trump for his continued support and emphasizing that he will not back down.
So far, two people have withdrawn from nominations for Mr. Trump's cabinet, including Mr. Chad Chronister for the position of head of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Mr. Matt Gaetz, who was originally a candidate for US Attorney General.
