Speed up construction of temporary roads
On the afternoon of July 29, speaking with Giao thong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son - Head of Que Phong Road Traffic Department, said: "After 2 days of sunny weather, no further subsidence occurred, the authorities decided to allow cars with 7 seats or less to circulate through the landslide at Chuoi slope, National Highway 16, section Km 264+700, National Highway 16; in Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district".
Cars with 7 seats or less can travel through Chuoi slope.
Traffic is closely monitored by guards at both ends of the landslide.
According to Mr. Son, the district is currently coordinating with local authorities to set up 24/7 guard posts at both ends of the landslide site.
The purpose is to prohibit vehicles from passing through the landslide area to ensure the safety of people's lives.
At the same time, the unit also assigned forces to monitor the landslide situation at this location to report to the competent authority at higher levels.
In addition, the unit has also deployed construction of a temporary road towards the positive slope of the landslide location.
However, in recent days, the weather in Que Phong has been rainy; at the same time, at the temporary road construction site there are many large rocks, so the construction is very difficult.
“Despite many difficulties, the unit has been mobilizing many machines and equipment, determined to complete the temporary road by the end of this week so that other vehicles can temporarily circulate,” Mr. Son added.

Geological and topographical survey drilling to find solutions
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hoang Quoc Truong, Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board, Nghe An Department of Transport, said: In parallel with building temporary roads, the department also drilled to survey the geology and terrain of the landslide area to propose a treatment plan to report to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration.
“QL16 is a particularly important route in the mountainous border area in the Northwest of Nghe An province. After the landslide occurred on Chuoi slope, the locality received close attention and direction from the leaders of the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration.
“Fixing the landslide is an urgent project, serving the essential travel needs of the people as well as socio-economic development, ensuring local security and defense. Therefore, the locality hopes to continue receiving the attention and direction of the ministry and the department,” Mr. Truong shared.
As reported by Giao thong Newspaper, on the evening of July 14, heavy rain caused subsidence of the road surface at Chuoi slope (Km 264+700, National Highway 16, in Chau Kim commune, Que Phong district).
Immediately after the subsidence, Nghe An Department of Transport directed the Road Management Department to fill in the subsidence and build temporary roads for people to travel.
However, later, due to subsidence more than 3m deeper than the original ground level, the department decided to close the road to ensure people's safety.
As soon as receiving the information, the Vietnam Road Administration, together with road and bridge experts, inspected the scene and made an initial assessment, and proposed solutions.
