Temporarily putting aside preparations for the upcoming Lunar New Year, farmers in Loc Ha spring peanut growing area (Ha Tinh) went to the fields to produce with the determination to cover 926 hectares of peanuts, bringing in a yield of 2,468 tons.
Thinh Loc farmers are rushing to sow and plant to finish the spring peanut crop early to ensure the crop schedule and a comfortable Tet holiday.
Tet is approaching, but Mr. Tran Van Thin's family in Nam Son village (Thinh Loc commune) still goes to the field early in the morning to rush to produce spring peanuts. The traditional Tet atmosphere is "getting hotter", making Mr. Thin more hurried and urgent in the steps of preparing the land, fertilizing, weeding, repairing the banks, making beds and planting the first batches of seeds of the new crop. Although it is hard work and they have to prepare for Tet late, because of a bumper crop, harvesting peanuts early, and having peace of mind for Tet holiday... they are very persistent and determined to finish making peanuts before the traditional Tet.
Mr. Thin said: “This year, my family produces 9 sao of peanuts in sandy soil areas. Currently, we have planted 7 sao, the remaining area will be completed with maximum manpower in the next few days. To achieve this production progress, 4 months ago, we proactively contributed enough manure to fertilize the entire peanut area, 25 days ago we completed the land preparation to kill weeds, 10 days ago we processed nearly 100 kg of peanut seeds and started sowing.”
Farmers in Yen Diem village are making high ridges in wet fields to plant rice after Tet.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Phong - Chairman of Thinh Loc Commune People's Committee said: "This year, the locality plans to maintain 180 hectares of spring peanuts and strive to achieve a yield of 25 quintals/ha, for an output of 450 tons. Currently, the land preparation, fertilization and sowing have been completed on about 70% of the area. We are mobilizing and encouraging people to proactively produce to reach about 93 - 95% of the total area before Tet. For wet land areas, we will make high beds, make deep trenches, and dry the beds enough to plant early next year."
Near Tet, farmers in Xuan Hai residential area (Loc Ha town) still go to the fields to produce for a successful crop.
The atmosphere of labor competition and hurried production to "run" Tet is also taking place in the peanut fields of Loc Ha town. In the spring crop of 2024, this central district locality plans to produce 195 hectares of peanuts (the most in the district) and is determined to strive to achieve the highest yield in the district (36 quintals/ha).
To complete this production target, Loc Ha town has focused on directing and urging people to proactively take advantage of the moist soil and warm weather to plant seeds around the time of Lap Xuan (February 4) and strive to finish sowing in February 2024. Therefore, although Tet is near, farmers are still rushing to the fields to prepare the soil, fertilize, clear weeds, and make beds to plant the first batches of spring peanuts to ensure timely harvest.
Farmers in Trung Nghia residential area (Loc Ha town) plant spring peanuts.
In the spring crop of 2024, Loc Ha peanut granary is determined to cover 926 hectares, with an average yield of 26.6 quintals/hectare and an output of nearly 2,468 tons; focusing on highland areas, not flooded, with sandy soil in Loc Ha town (195 hectares), Thach Chau (186 hectares), Thinh Loc (180 hectares), Binh An (109 hectares), Thach My (100 hectares)...
Taking advantage of the favorable weather conditions near Tet and avoiding the upcoming cold spells, farmers in the entire district have gathered in the fields to speed up the sowing process. Up to this point, the entire district has completed about 45% of the total area and will strive to have about 100 hectares more planted each day in dry fields. As for low-lying fields with wet soil, they will make ridges to celebrate Tet and then plant immediately.
Thach My farmers are also rushing to catch up with the harvest season in the days leading up to Tet.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district, Le Hong Co, said: “To achieve the targets in the 2024 spring peanut production project, we have advised the district People's Committee to direct functional departments, branches, and local authorities to be proactive in all stages, take advantage of planting around the time of Lap Xuan and strive to finish sowing in February of the solar calendar.
Thanks to the synchronous participation, up to now, people have basically completed the land preparation, manure pouring, weeding, and prepared enough good varieties (mainly L14, V79...) to ensure the crop schedule. In addition, we also strengthen coordination to check the quality of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other materials to ensure safety and efficiency in production."
