The spring crop is one of the most important agricultural production seasons in the province, contributing significantly to food output and local economic development. In order to ensure the high efficiency of the 2025 spring crop, localities in the province have actively and synchronously implemented many solutions, from preparation to production organization in the fields.
Farmers in Hoang Luu commune (Hoang Hoa) fertilize and take care of spring rice.
According to the plan, in the 2025 spring crop, Thanh Hoa plans to plant 189,000 hectares, of which rice accounts for 112,000 hectares, corn 14,000 hectares, peanuts 6,000 hectares, vegetables of all kinds 15,000 hectares and other crops 42,000 hectares. The food output target is 793,800 tons. Right from the beginning of the crop, the agricultural sector and local authorities have proactively prepared all production conditions. Irrigation management units have also developed specific plans and water supply schedules, ensuring sufficient water supply for planting within the right time frame.
In Tho Xuan district, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the whole district plans to plant 7,850 hectares, including 5,300 hectares of hybrid rice, 2,000 hectares of pure rice and 320 hectares of sticky rice, striving to achieve a yield of 55,289 tons. To ensure high results in the spring crop, the district requires communes to strictly follow the planting schedule and flexibly arrange the crop structure to suit actual conditions. Along with that, localities are directed to focus on land preparation, complete planting on time, and regulate water appropriately according to each growth stage to limit waterlogging or drought. Technical measures are deployed synchronously from the beginning of the crop, including proper crop care, pruning and intercropping of direct-sown rice to ensure a density of 70 - 80 furrows/m2, and timely pest control. In particular, the district has proactively implemented crop protection measures such as killing rats and golden apple snails before planting, and spraying pesticides to prevent black-striped dwarf disease on spring rice. To date, farmers in the district have cleared 118,862 hectares of land (83% of the plan), the amount of seedling sown reached 1,781.1 tons, and the area of rice planted reached 5,905.7 hectares.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Dung, Vice Chairman of Tho Xuan District People's Committee, said: "To ensure good results in the spring crop, the district has mobilized maximum human resources and means, accelerated production progress, especially in land preparation, sowing and crop care right from the beginning of the crop. We also directed agricultural service cooperatives to closely coordinate with farmers, strictly implement technical measures, balance fertilization and regulate water reasonably, creating favorable conditions for rice plants to grow and develop evenly."
Many other localities in the province have also completed the spring planting plan and entered the crop care stage. Hoang Hoa district has planted more than 9,500 hectares of rice, mainly high-yield varieties with good resistance to pests and diseases. The district government has organized many training courses on cultivation techniques, instructing people on the process of fertilizing, caring for and preventing pests and diseases right from the beginning of the crop to ensure productivity.
Currently, although planting has basically been completed, farmers across the fields still take the time to go down to the fields to check the newly planted rice, weed and fertilize the deficient rice area. Ms. Le Thi Hoa, Hoang Luu commune (Hoang Hoa), shared: “This year, my family planted nearly 2 hectares of rice with key varieties such as Thai Xuyen and Bac Thinh. Thanks to the application of mechanization, farming work is much easier, saving both effort and costs. We just hope for favorable weather to have a bumper crop.”
In Yen Dinh district, this year's spring crop has a planting area of about 10,000 hectares, focusing on high-quality purebred rice varieties. After completing the planting, the district directed communes and agricultural cooperatives to implement care measures, early fertilization to help the rice plants take root quickly, and closely monitor the development of pests and diseases, especially brown planthoppers and black-striped dwarf disease to have timely prevention measures.
This year’s spring crop generally has favorable weather conditions, but localities still need to closely monitor climate and pest developments to respond promptly. The provincial agricultural sector has asked localities to increase field inspections and provide farmers with guidance on proper rice care techniques so that the rice plants grow evenly and limit pests and diseases right from the beginning.
In addition, Thanh Hoa is also promoting production linkage models according to value chains, encouraging enterprises and cooperatives to participate in product consumption to help farmers stabilize output. Mechanization in production continues to be promoted to reduce labor, improve production efficiency and ensure progress in planting and care.
