In recent years, thanks to the synchronous implementation of many solutions in production, aquaculture in the province has achieved encouraging results. In particular, ensuring the quality of seed is considered a prerequisite, contributing to bringing high economic efficiency to farmers. In Cam Khe district, farming facilities have proactively prepared, renovated ponds and invested in seeds, ready for the spring-summer crop of 2025.

Cam Khe district has 1,800 hectares of aquaculture water surface, of which intensive and semi-intensive farming areas account for more than 1,000 hectares. In addition, 785 hectares of farming area following the one-rice-one-fish model brings impressive aquatic product output, reaching over 8,500 tons in 2024. From the beginning of 2025, aquatic seedling nurseries in the district have actively cared for, ensured the quantity and quality standards of seeds, and supplied them to the market, helping people reduce transportation costs and bring high economic efficiency.

Carefully renovating the pond, treating mud and water sources, Mr. Tran Van Kien, an aquaculture household in Minh Thang commune, Cam Khe district, shared: "To ensure the 2025 spring-summer crop is highly effective, before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, my family drained the pond, dried the bottom, and disinfected it to limit pathogens. After Tet, we will continue to renovate the pond and contact reputable establishments to order the breed. It is expected that around March 2025, when the weather is favorable, we will plant the seeds and hope for a successful crop."

In aquaculture, seed quality plays an important role in determining productivity and economic efficiency. Realizing this, hatcheries in Cam Khe district have actively taken care of and ensured the supply of standard seed to the people, helping to reduce transportation costs and increase farming efficiency.

Currently, in addition to traditional fish breeds such as grass carp, bighead carp, bighead carp, and silver carp for commercial farming, many aquaculture cooperatives in Minh Thang, Minh Tan, Nhat Tien, etc. have strongly developed specialty fish such as catfish, loach, bighead carp, single-sex tilapia, etc. The facilities not only provide fish breeds but also provide technical advice on farming, helping people successfully apply new farming models, making good use of natural food sources and water surface area.

In 2024, facilities in the district produced nearly 90 million fish fry, of which 25 million were tilapia, the rest were catfish, loach, loach, common carp, silver carp, grass carp, etc. The rich and diverse source of breeds has promptly met the farming needs of people not only in the district but also spread to neighboring areas.

The use of high-quality breeds combined with scientific farming processes has brought about clear economic efficiency. Many households in communes in the district have succeeded in developing specialty fish farming models, bringing high and sustainable income.

Some models such as raising monosex tilapia, catfish, and loaches in earthen ponds or the one-crop-one-fish-one-crop model have also been implemented and replicated. These models not only help increase productivity but also significantly improve the income of farming households, contributing to the development of the rural economy.

Mr. Bui Van Chu - Head of Thuy Tram red carp village said: "With an area of about 20 hectares of aquaculture water surface, each year, the village produces about 15-25 million fry. Using quality fingerlings along with proper farming techniques has helped many households in the area have a bumper crop. We also regularly guide people on disease prevention measures, feeding techniques and pond management to improve production efficiency."

Breeding ensures quality and quantity to supply to the market.

To further develop the potential of aquaculture, Cam Khe district is promoting development in the direction of intensive and semi-intensive farming, especially fish breeds with high economic value. The district also strengthens the management of seed production facilities, ensuring the quality of seeds before supplying to the market.

At the same time, support policies on land, capital and technology are also focused on, encouraging production facilities to expand their scale and diversify varieties, especially specialty and indigenous varieties. This is not only a solution for economic development but also contributes to the conservation of valuable aquatic species, bringing sustainable value to the local aquaculture industry.

In addition to the district’s efforts, the provincial Department of Fisheries is also closely coordinating with relevant agencies to manage and inspect the quality of seed, increasing funding for testing and inspection activities. Thereby, ensuring seed sources meet standards, contributing to the development of aquaculture in the direction of commodity production, sustainability and efficiency.
