Jones spent 12 years with MU. He faced many serious injuries and made little contribution to the Old Trafford team. Jones decided to retire at the age of 31 in 2023.

On March 19, the former centre-back admitted he sympathised with the similar pain that Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are suffering at MU.

"I feel for Mason and Luke," Jones said. "I know exactly how they feel. For me, it's a shame, because you play for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, and what you want most is to play."

Shaw and Mount were once expected to be United's mainstays, but persistent injuries have cut short their careers. Jones added: "I would say they need to come back when they feel comfortable to play. The medical staff these days will often push you back sooner, but they have to feel that it's the right decision. You have to make sure the players are ready to play."

Mount and Shaw have both been sidelined since early December with hamstring and calf injuries respectively. Mount has missed 51 games for United since joining for £55m in 2023.

However, coach Ruben Amorim still has faith in Mount. He said: "I have great faith in Mount. MU needs players like him. Mount is a European champion and is really talented. With what he has done in his career, Mount will always receive support and respect from everyone at the club."

Meanwhile, Shaw is also in a similar situation. He has missed more matches than he has played for the "Red Devils". When healthy, Shaw is a difficult defender to replace for MU.

Bruno Fernandes shined on the day MU won big against Leicester. In the early morning of March 17, Bruno scored 1 goal and 2 assists to help MU defeat host Leicester 3-0 in round 29 of the Premier League.
