VTVRatings tool applies big data to calculate TV viewership ratings. |
Viewership ratings are an important indicator to reflect the level of user interest in television programs. However, in Vietnam, there is no formal, reliable measurement solution for this need.
On the morning of March 20, Vietnam Television (VTV) introduced VTVRatings, a tool to measure audiences on multiple platforms, track viewer behavior and apply big data technology.
The advantages of the new solution lie in being updated in real time, having high policy and transparency.
The system uses viewership data on television and digital platforms. Information is collected from many sources, including traditional channels, Smart TVs, OTT platforms and Internet devices. Through a large amount of input, VTVRatings accurately records the needs and viewing habits of domestic audiences.

Previously, the popular measurement method was based on Panel. A representative group of households were randomly selected and fitted with People Meters. This device collected the viewing habits of a small sample of viewers, calculating estimates that reflected the entire market. The weakness of the technology was that the update time was slow, with a probability of error.
The advantages of big data technology are automatic collection, automatic elimination of duplicate information, errors. It also automatically synchronizes with other sources to ensure consistency. Based on AI, VTVRatings can determine general viewing behavior.
New ratings technology helps broadcasters assess the appeal of individual programs, which informs production decisions. It also supports and increases the effectiveness of advertising campaigns.
