Up to this point, Hanoi is the locality that has decided to let students have the least Tet holiday compared to many localities that have had a Tet holiday schedule from the Education and Training sector. While most provinces and cities let students have more than 10 days off, Hanoi has 8 days.
Hanoi students have 8 days off for Lunar New Year
Specifically, on January 9, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced that the Tet holiday for students, staff and teachers of kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, and Education Staff Training Schools will be 8 days, from February 7 to 14 (ie from December 28, Quy Mao year to January 5, Giap Thin year).
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training explained that experience over the years has shown that the Tet holiday for students must be consistent with the holiday time of local officials and civil servants. If students are given a long holiday while their parents have to go back to work earlier, it will lead to difficulties when there is no one to take care of the children, especially in preschool and primary schools.
Meanwhile, students from kindergarten to high school in Ho Chi Minh City will have Tet holiday from February 5 to 18 (ie from December 26, Quy Mao year to January 9, Giap Thin year). Including weekends before and after the prescribed time, students in Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 16 days off.
Similarly, according to the decision of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, students in this province will have 16 days off for Tet, from February 3 to 18.
In Kien Giang and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, preschool, primary and secondary school students and continuing education students will have a 2-week Tet holiday, from February 5 to 18.
Students and teachers in Vinh Phuc have 11 days off for the Lunar New Year, from February 8 to 18. Students in Ha Tinh have 13 days off for the Lunar New Year.
The 2024 Lunar New Year holiday for students in Long An province will last 11 days, from February 4 to 14.
In Can Tho, students and teachers will have Tet holiday from February 5 to 14. The traditional Chol Chnam Thmay holiday for Khmer students and teachers will be announced separately.
The People's Committees of Quang Ninh, Kon Tum and Tra Vinh provinces have set the Tet holiday from February 5 to 17.
Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has set the Tet holiday schedule for preschool, general education and continuing education from February 5 to 18. Dak Nong Province has students on Tet holiday from February 7 to 18.
According to the decision on the 2023-2024 school year time plan framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the school year time plan of localities issued by the Provincial People's Committee must be consistent with the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality. Holidays and Tet holidays are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guidance documents.
The Ministry of Education and Training also sets out the principles for developing the school year schedule for localities as follows: for preschool education and general education, there are 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester 1 and 17 weeks for semester 2). For continuing education (implementing the secondary and high school education programs).
For grades 9 and 12, there are 32 weeks of actual study (each semester has 16 weeks). For grades 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11, there are 35 weeks of actual study (semester 1 has 18 weeks, semester 2 has 17 weeks).
Students finish semester 1 before January 15, complete semester 2 education plan before May 25 and end the school year before May 31.
Consider recognition of completion of primary school program and recognition of secondary school graduation before June 30, complete enrollment of first grade classes before July 31.
