(Dan Tri) - In Dong Son ancient village (Ham Rong ward, Thanh Hoa city, Thanh Hoa province), there are still 12 houses that are 100 to 200 years old.
Located on the banks of the Ma River, Dong Son village is one of the most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam. The village is surrounded by mountains, nearly 4km2 wide, with about 400 households and more than 1,300 people living there.
After hundreds of years, Dong Son ancient village still preserves the beauty of a village in the North Central region. Interspersed among the high-rise buildings built close together, the ancient village still preserves many alleys bearing the mark of the countryside. In particular, there are 12 ancient houses here from 100 to over 200 years old. Among them is the house of Mr. Luong Trong Due's family in Tri alley, built more than 200 years ago.
The house has a 5-room, 2-wing architectural style, roofed with yin-yang tiles. The rafters, rafters, and wooden pillars are elaborately carved. According to Mr. Luong The Tap (Mr. Due's son), the house was originally built by the Luong family's ancestor during the Nguyen Dynasty. In 2006, the house was recognized as a provincial-level cultural relic by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. In the house, Mr. Tap's family still keeps worshiping objects and large wooden panels and parallel sentences. All are quite original and have deep historical and cultural value. The wooden doors in the old house are still quite sturdy. Not far from Mr. Due's house, the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Tan's family (born in 1952, No. 10, Mieu Nhi alley) is over 100 years old. Mr. Nguyen Van Tan (who is taking care of the house) said that over time, the house has deteriorated many times, especially the tiled roof. Therefore, the family has repaired the tiled roof but still kept the ancient features of the house. "We really appreciate the historical values as well as the valuable assets left by our ancestors. However, due to the current changing living conditions, if we do not renovate it, it will not be usable," said Mr. Tan.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ve, Head of Dong Son ancient village, said that there used to be 13 ancient houses, but now there are only 12 houses left. Most of the ancient houses in the locality are seriously degraded. To preserve the beauty of the ancient village, the local government is planning to support people to repair and preserve these houses. "We hope that the locality and relevant agencies need to re-evaluate the current situation in detail to have measures to preserve the ancient houses. If people are allowed to repair them on their own, the inherent historical value of the ancient houses will be lost," said Mr. Ve.
Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Chairwoman of Ham Rong Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa City, said that for many years, the locality has regularly promoted the need to preserve the cultural beauty and historical values of the village and 12 ancient houses. "In addition to promoting efforts to preserve ancient houses, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province is planning to implement a project to develop Dong Son ancient village to fully exploit its strengths and tourism potential," Ms. Thanh shared.
