According to the Plan for the network of higher education and pedagogical institutions recently issued by the Prime Minister, by 2030 many universities will have to merge with other universities or consolidate with each other.
Specifically, for pedagogical schools, universities of physical education and sports and art education will be rearranged and reorganized.
The proposed options include merging with a pedagogical university or a multidisciplinary, multi-field higher education institution with a school, faculty of pedagogy or basic sciences.
Merge or consolidate with each other or with specialized schools of physical education, sports, and arts to develop into a multidisciplinary university including physical education, sports, and arts pedagogy.
With this orientation, at least 3 universities will be merged or consolidated. They are Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports, Central University of Art Education and Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports.
For pedagogical colleges, reorganize according to the following options: merge into a pedagogical university or a multidisciplinary, multi-field university with a school, faculty of pedagogy or basic sciences.
Merge into a local or regional higher education institution. Merge or consolidate with several other local educational institutions.
Most of the pedagogical colleges are under the People's Committees of the provinces. However, some pedagogical colleges are under the Ministry of Education and Training such as the Central Pedagogical Colleges in Hanoi, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Up to now, many local teacher training colleges have been merged to form multidisciplinary colleges in the provinces, merged into provincial universities or become branches of universities.
In which, Long An Pedagogical College and Gia Lai Pedagogical College became branches of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education.
Ministry of Education and Training receives handover of 3 technical pedagogical universities
On February 28, the Ministry of Education and Training received three technical pedagogical universities from the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. The schools include: Nam Dinh Technical Pedagogical University, Vinh Technical Pedagogical University and Vinh Long Technical Pedagogical University.
With the acceptance of 3 new schools, the Ministry of Education and Training manages 6 technical pedagogical universities: Nam Dinh, Vinh, Vinh Long, Hung Yen, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang (belonging to Da Nang University).
According to the planning of the network of higher education institutions, technical pedagogical universities are restructured into multidisciplinary and multi-field higher education institutions with a focus on technology and engineering; continuing to play a core role in training teachers and lecturers of vocational education to meet the requirements of developing the network of vocational education institutions.
