Muong Long Commune (Ky Son) is considered to have the lowest temperature in Nghe An during these days of severe cold. Although before winter, the district authorities have issued many official dispatches and telegrams directing localities to step up cold prevention for livestock and crops, the situation of buffaloes and cows freezing to death has occurred in the villages.

Mr. Lau Ba Cho - Vice Chairman of Muong Long Commune People's Committee said: As of the afternoon of January 25, 3 cows had frozen to death in the commune. Specifically, on January 24, Mr. Vu Ba Do's family in Muong Long 1 village lost 2 cows and Mr. Va Ba Lau's family in Muong Long 2 village lost 1 cow. "Currently, the locality is sending cadres to villages and hamlets to propagate and instruct people on how to protect buffaloes and cows from the cold by locking them up and burning firewood to keep them warm, and collecting grass to feed the cows...", Mr. Lau Ba Cho said.

Not only Muong Long, but many other localities have also had buffaloes and cows freeze to death. Mr. Tho Ba Re - Vice Chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee said: As of the afternoon of January 25, 12 buffaloes and cows had died in this cold spell in the district. Of which, Bao Nam commune had 1, Muong Long commune had 3, Na Loi commune had 1, Dooc May commune had 2, Huoi Tu commune had 2, Tay Son commune had 1 and Nam Can commune had 2.
"Currently, the district continues to direct localities to stick to the area, promptly count the damage to livestock and crops so that the district can report to superiors for support plans," said Mr. Tho Ba Re.

In Que Phong district, buffaloes and cows have also died from the cold. Mr. Phan Trong Dung - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that statistics from the facilities on the afternoon of January 25 showed that in the district, 2 calves in Tri Le commune had died.

Severe cold will continue for many days to come, so authorities at all levels, especially in mountainous areas, need to proactively guide people on solutions to prevent and combat the cold for livestock, limiting economic damage./.
