Help ethnic minorities escape poverty
In recent years, community tourism in Hoa Binh province has been considered an important economic sector. Community tourism destinations have been increasingly interested, supported and developed through projects and policies of the Central and the province.
Thanks to taking indigenous culture as the root, community tourism has developed strongly in Hoa Binh and spread to neighboring localities, the number of domestic and foreign tourists coming to Hoa Binh is increasing.

According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province, in the first 6 months of 2023, the whole province welcomed 2.36 million visitors, an increase of 28.8% over the same period last year, reaching 67.4% of the annual plan. Of which, there were 240,000 international visitors and 2,120 thousand domestic visitors. Total revenue from tourists reached 2,300 billion VND, an increase of 16.2% over the same period last year, reaching 59% of the annual plan. In particular, the contribution of community tourism is not small. Community tourism has been creating sustainable livelihoods, helping ethnic minorities and mountainous areas of Hoa Binh province escape poverty and become rich.
Although community tourism in Hoa Binh has attracted many visitors in recent times, the development of community tourism has encountered a number of difficulties and challenges and revealed a number of shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome, such as: The road system connecting villages, hamlets, and community tourism destinations is still difficult and unsynchronized; the clean water supply system, waste and wastewater treatment areas have not received investment attention; low-quality telecommunications infrastructure has not met the needs of tourists; tourism products are poor, monotonous, and of low quality...
To develop community tourism commensurate with its potential and strengths, Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Tourism Steering Committee of Hoa Binh province, said: The People's Committee of Hoa Binh province issued Decision No. 446/QD-UBND dated March 10, 2020 approving the Project on Developing Community Tourism Associated with New Rural Development in Hoa Binh province by 2030.
Accordingly, Hoa Binh province strives to invest in building infrastructure for 290 community tourism households by 2030, welcoming over 1.65 million tourists; total revenue from community tourism accounts for 19.5% of total revenue from tourists. The province will support the expansion of community tourism models for communes in mountainous areas; support investment and upgrading of transport infrastructure connecting community tourism sites, etc.
