On October 30, in Ha Long City, Ha Long Bay Management Board organized a workshop on "Identifying and evaluating typical and unique cultural values in Ha Long Bay" with the participation of 50 domestic and international experts and scientists.

In addition to its outstanding global aesthetic and geomorphological values that have been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site three times, the Heritage - Wonder of Ha Long Bay is also highly appreciated by experts for its potential cultural values. From the historical perspective of Ha Long Bay culture, the Northeast sea and island area is associated with four fundamental stages of development of the historical and cultural space of the nation. It is the space that formed the maritime cultures: Soi Nhu - Cai Beo - Ha Long in prehistoric times; an important economic center in the East Asia region, playing the role of connecting Northeast Asia with Southeast Asia and Southwest Asia since the first centuries AD; and a leading important international diplomatic and trade hub of Dai Viet nation. Up to now, Ha Long sea culture since the 19th century has been promoted in the direction of blue sea economy, tourism, sea services, and sea cultural industry.

The opinions of experts participating in the workshop all affirmed the cultural values of Ha Long Bay, with typical characteristics, depth and rich infrastructure, with many tangible and intangible cultural values, documentary heritage; are vivid evidence for the tradition of exploiting the sea, thinking towards the sea, developing the marine economy. Those values have contributed to increasing the unique value, depth, integrity and authenticity of the World Heritage of Ha Long Bay.

Management agencies, experts, and scientists have comprehensively and multi-dimensionally assessed the potential cultural values of Ha Long Bay, as well as the interaction between the environment and marine culture - the origin of unique intangible cultural values in Ha Long Bay; determined the boundaries and models, and methods of managing nominated heritage in the form of chains of inter-regional nature. From there, proposed solutions to effectively preserve and promote the values of the heritage, especially cultural and historical values.
The workshop "Identifying and evaluating the typical and unique cultural values of Ha Long Bay" is one of the activities towards the 30th anniversary of Ha Long Bay being recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage for its natural landscape value and continued to be honored in 2000 for its geological and geomorphological value. In 2023, Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized by UNESCO as the first inter-provincial - municipal World Natural Heritage in Vietnam . Last September, Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago continued to be recognized by the International Union of Geological Sciences as an International Geoheritage.
