Within the framework of the 2nd Ho Chi Minh City River Festival in 2024, the special art program "Storytelling River" season 2 with the theme "Legendary Train" will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on May 31, 2024 at Nha Rong Khanh Hoi Area - Saigon Port.
The art program is an outdoor musical performance held on the Saigon River, recreating historical stories through a completely new artistic language.
Musician Duc Tri participates in recreating and honoring the heroic history of the Saigon River.
Female director "telling stories with heart" Le Hai Yen, who had great success with "Storytelling River" season 1 in 2023, is the General Director of the Program.
To contribute to recreating and honoring the heroic history of the Saigon River, General Director Le Hai Yen persuaded and invited leading names to participate in staging the program, namely stage director Pham Hoang Nam, choreographer Tan Loc, designer Nguyen Viet Hung and music director Duc Tri.
Musician Duc Tri surprised everyone when he agreed to be the Music Director for the show. Known as a talented musician with a very unique perspective on his career, recently musician Duc Tri has not been pressured by “working for others” anymore but has instead spent time “on my book, my album, and my concert” - as he said.
However, this time, musician Duc Tri was convinced by the special script of The Story River – season 2 “Legendary Train” by General Director Le Hai Yen. He grasped the spirit of the script very quickly and agreed to join the young female director.
Musician Duc Tri’s talent is demonstrated in his ability to create beyond his own ego, completely immersing himself in the script and intentions of the program’s general director. The program believes that immortal works of art will be “dressed in a new coat” full of emotion, heroism and distinction, combining both national cultural elements and European musical styles through the compositional and arrangement talents of musician Duc Tri.
Last year, director Pham Hoang Nam returned from Canada to participate in the first Ho Chi Minh City River Festival as an Artistic Advisor - Lighting Director. This year, he accepted to participate as a Stage Director. From season 1, director Pham Hoang Nam was captivated by the attractive and captivating script created by General Director Le Hai Yen. In season 2, he accepted without hesitation, both because he wanted to contribute to the city he had been attached to for more than 20 years, and because of Le Hai Yen's passionate and novel script.
Also participating in the choreography for The River Tells Stories – Season 2 of “The Legendary Train” is the talented choreographer Tan Loc. Choreographer Tan Loc is the founder of the Ho Chi Minh City International Contemporary Dance Festival - a regular festival, launched in 2013. Along with founding Arabesque, he created the plays The Story of the Shoes, Wood, Tick Toc; Straw ... bringing a new breath to the art of dance in Vietnam.
In 2015, Tan Loc was one of two Vietnamese choreographers invited by Canada’s Cirque Du Soleil to choreograph the play Toruk-The FirstFlight . He was also the artistic advisor for the show “The Ballerina”, which premiered at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater in 2017…
Choreographer Tan Loc was also conquered by the special script and the grand, elaborate, extremely bold staging idea, gathering the most modern stage technology but still imbued with the national soul of General Director Le Hai Yen, so he put aside many busy jobs to devote all his efforts to the program, with the desire to contribute to the development of Ho Chi Minh City today.
In addition, the crew also had the participation of designer Nguyen Viet Hung. He was in charge of designing all the costumes for thousands of actors and artists so that the "blockbuster" at Saigon Port "Storytelling River - Legendary Train" captivated the audience with every small detail on the costumes.
Ho Chi Minh City River Festival 2024 promises to be exciting.
The combination of talented directors, musicians, choreographers of each field, the combination of technology such as cinematography, 3D Mapping projection technology, water screen, moving water stage, Drone performance, fireworks... promises to create a spectacular, eye-catching show, of international class, attractive enough to leave a deep impression on the hearts of the audience and visitors attending the opening ceremony.
Ho Chi Minh City River Festival 2024, especially opening up new attractive directions for Festival "technology" in Vietnam and creating cultural and economic values for the locality in particular and the country in general.
