Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - has just announced that poet Tran Quang Dao breathed his last at 2am on November 10. "He has left behind the physical and mental pain that tormented him in the last years of his life," poet Nguyen Quang Thieu expressed.
The funeral will take place at 1:30 p.m. on November 12 at Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. Poet Tran Quang Dao rests in peace in his hometown of Quang Binh.
Poet Tran Quang Dao passed away on November 10.
Poet Tran Quang Dao was born in 1957 in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province. He enlisted in February 1975, in Division 341, Military Region 4. He fought and worked on the Laos-Vietnam border and the northern border in the 1980s of the 20th century.
As a member of the Vietnam Writers Association specializing in poetry, Tran Quang Dao has many works of prose, poetry, film scripts, paintings... Regarding prose, he is the author of the novels Love without a wedding, Illusion Night, and the long story collection Children of the Sky . Tran Quang Dao has many poetic works, of which the collection Flying in a Dream is the most famous with more than 80 poems.
Poet Tran Quang Dao won the C Prize in the 1983-1984 poetry contest, the encouragement prize in the 1993-1994 poetry contest and the 1995 prize for good poetry from the Army Literature Magazine, the second prize in the Kim Dong Publishing House's story contest in 1997, and the poetry prize from the Vietnam Writers Association in 2019. In 2019, he received the ASEAN Literature Award (2019-2020) for the poetry collection Flying in a Dream.
Tran Quang Dao is also a famous journalist, who was the Editor-in-Chief of Nhi Dong Newspaper. He contributed to the birth of the National Youth Football Tournament.
Poet Tran Quang Dao won many important literary awards.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said he knew poet Tran Quang Dao since he was very young. "Every time we met, our only conversation was about poetry and only poetry. Those were years of poverty but so pure and beautiful. Poetry became our most important source of life energy. And poetry followed Tran Quang Dao to the last minute of his life with all the events, all the joys and sorrows, all the dreams of him and of human life", poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said.
