(Dan Tri) - Seeing her colleague die at home but not discovered until many days later, a female office worker in the US could not help but feel heartbroken, raising the issue of mutual care in the workplace.

"Our colleague passed away at home, but no one noticed immediately," a social media post by Somya Bajaj, an Indian economist working at the World Bank (USA), caused a stir among netizens.

Accordingly, she said a colleague named Anne passed away at the end of January. The recently deceased female employee was always the one who planned events and initiated conversations to bring people in the company closer together.

"Suddenly she stopped showing up. She stopped responding to emails and messages. After a few days of her disappearance, the department where she worked sent someone to check her house but no one answered the door. At that point, they had to call the police," Somya wrote.

When the police opened the door, they witnessed a heartbreaking scene. Anne had died alone for days without anyone knowing.

"We also don't know when Anne died or how she suffered alone before. Police estimate she had been dead for about three days," Somya shared.

Somya said her post was not only a tribute to her colleague, but also a reminder of the realities of modern life that leave some people seemingly isolated from society.

"We spend eight hours a day in the office for our entire adult lives. For many, that's the only time we have social interaction. Many of us are living alone, choosing to bury ourselves in work and not being asked if we suddenly disappear," Somya confided.

Female economist advises people to make a big deal out of "checking" someone.

"When a person suddenly stops responding to messages or calls, loved ones simply assume they are busy. Anne's loss is a reminder not to assume silence means someone is busy. Pay more attention to them, instead of just chatting on social media," Somya emphasized.
