Former President Donald Trump and Ms. Shenna Bellows
In a Facebook post, Bellows said she had been the victim of swatting, a false alarm that led Maine SWAT teams to her home.
According to Maine state officials, her home address was posted online, and someone called her, prompting police to raid her home on the evening of December 29. Fortunately, her family was away.
Maine State Police said an unidentified man called the regional communications center, saying he had broken into a home in the Augusta area, according to WGME13.
Police later confirmed the address belonged to the Bellows family. When they arrived, the SWAT team found no one home. The investigation is ongoing.
Politico reported that at least three Republican lawmakers were targeted in false reporting incidents this week. They were Senator Rick Scott, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Representative Brandon Williams.
No one was injured in the incidents.
Similar incidents have occurred for many state and local officials, both Republican and Democratic, amid heightened security concerns for politicians and lawmakers ahead of the US election.
In the case of Ms. Bellows, on December 28, she decided to disqualify former President Trump from the primary election in this state because of his role in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
