Earlier, US authorities arrested a man in Palm City, Florida after the assassination of former President Trump at his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.

The suspect, armed with an AK-style rifle, was spotted by a Secret Service agent near the fence of the Trump International Golf Club, according to law enforcement.

The Secret Service agent opened fire, prompting the suspect to flee in an SUV, which was later stopped by the Martin County Sheriff's Office on Interstate 95.

The New York Times and Fox News channel said the subject's name is Ryan Wesley Routh, 58 years old, living in the state of Hawaii.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the investigation, classifying the incident as an attempted assassination, and is determining the motive behind the attack.

Authorities recovered the weapon along with a backpack and a GoPro camera near the scene.

Former President Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, just months before a potentially tense election on November 5, in which he will face Democratic candidate and US Vice President Kamala Harris.
