Graduated from Viet Bac University of Education in 1995; defended her Master's degree in 1998, defended her PhD in 2009 and was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2016, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien - Head of the Department of Geography (University of Education - Thai Nguyen University) has had a long journey of research on Geography science and Geography teaching methods.

Important contributions to the science of Geography
Sharing about geography, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien said: Geography is a comprehensive subject, belonging to both social sciences and natural sciences, so to study geography well, students need to have logical, clear, coherent thinking, not just memorization.
The 2018 General Education Program is designed in an open way. In addition to the core and mandatory contents, localities and schools are proactive in selecting and supplementing some educational contents and implementing appropriate educational plans; most geography lessons are designed as activities both inside and outside the classroom. This is an opportunity for teachers to be creative with each lesson content.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien was excited to see that, at the high school level, Geography has been chosen by many students; the majority of them have had correct perceptions of the role and position of Geography in schools and in career orientation. The contents and requirements of the general education program for Geography have been fully trained, helping teachers to be proactive in implementing the program.
“During my work, I have attended many classes of general education teachers and found that most teachers, especially young teachers, have very good knowledge and pedagogical skills. Teachers are dedicated, creative, and passionate about each lesson; they design many useful and interesting activities, making the subject attractive and attracting students to actively participate,” Ms. Lien shared.

From that reality, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien believes that to be a teacher, passion is not enough, but one needs solid, in-depth professional knowledge; only then can one design engaging teaching activities.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien optimistically believes that most students today have a clear career orientation, so when deciding to apply for admission to the Faculty of Geography, University of Education (Thai Nguyen University), most of them study hard, practice ethics, skills, knowledge, and achieve very good training results.
There are also a few students who come to the Geography Pedagogy major, initially because they passed their second choice, but after only about half a semester, they have caught up with and loved the program.
At the ceremony to award the title of People's Teacher and Meritorious Teacher on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son expressed his recognition and high appreciation for the contributions of teachers, including Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Lien, to the education sector, as well as to the country's science and innovation over the past time.
