With T3 terminal, Tan Son Nhat airport will escape overload

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the largest international airport in Vietnam with an area of 850 hectares (to date). The airport currently operates two terminals, T1 and T2. Of which, T1 serves domestic flights, T2 serves international flights.

For many years, Tan Son Nhat Airport has been frequently overloaded during holidays and Tet due to its capacity exceeding its operational capacity. Specifically, the initial design capacity of the two terminals was only 28-30 million passengers. However, for many years in a row, the number of passengers passing through the airport has exceeded 40 million passengers per year.

Therefore, when T3 terminal is put into operation with a capacity of 20 million passengers/year, it will help increase the total capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers/year.

Of which, terminal T3 will handle an expected 80% of domestic passengers, helping to share the burden of terminal T1, which has been overloaded for many years.

Terminal T3 will start construction in December 2022 with a total investment of nearly VND 11,000 billion, with Vietnam Airlines Corporation (ACV) as the investor.

According to the design, the terminal has 1 basement, 4 floors above ground, with a total floor area of 112,500m2. The terminal is connected to the parking lot through 26 aircraft gates (13 telescopic gates and 13 bus gates); there are 6 departure baggage handling islands and 10 arrival baggage return islands.

The terminal also has 89 check-in counters, 20 automatic baggage drop counters and 42 check-in kiosks, applying new technology combined with a national population database for check-in procedures; 25 security control gates; 1 separate area for business class passengers.
